Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Hi everyone,

I'm called Hobbit. I'm a moderator on this forum, which gives me the wonderful opportunity to read through vastly complex, often sad, often happy posts from everyone. I'd like to thank everyone for their wonderful insights and for sharing their thoughts. I have said to many people I know, "if you want to see the basic 'good' in people, the strengths, the determination and perserverance, the warm-ness, and just plain 'nice-ness' in humans that we often forget exists, have a look at the discussions from these fantastic people".

I read a great post from someone earlier who said that getting away from it all and losing themselves to a hobby restores them and keeps them balanced.

So I thought I'd start this little discussion thread about hobbies. (I just wrote 'Hobbies from Hobbits because that's who I am....I'd love to hear hobbies from anyone...even Elves).

My main hobby is playing guitar. Sometimes I find my life is just made up of working/studying/working/studying...so I love sitting down and just paying guitar. I actually write songs, so playing guitar is such a great way of losing myself in creativity.

Let's hear about anyone else's hobbies! What do you like to do? What keeps you balanced? What is somehting you can 'lose yourself in' for a little while?

Hey @PeppiPatty ,

How are you?

Here's a little slogan for your tee-shirt. A quote by Bob Hope:

"A bank is a place that will lend you money, only f you can prove that you don't need it."

Hobbit.

@PeppiPatty , how goes it? I have been reading some Terry Pratchett books of late. Just funny stuff that I find is great just for light hearted "forget myself for a while" kind of thing.

Re: Hobbies (from Hobbits)

I just looked up Terry Prachett and am ashamed to write......no, I haven't read him but my most favourite fantasy books are of course, Ursula Le Guin and ....
Magician by Raymond Fiest

But my most spot on books in series would be by Diana Wynne Jones, Cart and Cwidder series.
Ille check out Terry Prachett.

I actually am asking for some support, can I write some problem??

Re: Hobbies (from Hobbits)

terry pratchet is hilarious. That's that whole disc world thing? He wrote a book with Neil gaiman which is a bit of fun.
@PeppiPatty
Ursula le guin is great I love the way she plays around with language and "naming"
And I LOVE LOVE LOVE dianna Wynn jones. Have you seen the animated version of howls moving castle?
Books are the bestest ever. You know that feeling when you are at work or whatever and you wonder how the people in the book you are reading are going??

Re: Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Ursula le Guin......is ....oh...what a read. those 5 books of Wizard of Earth sea. My dog passed away yesterday....I'm gonna reread Wizard of Earthsea again....to get to the second book...you know...the goddess bit book.

I've seen tHe howls moving Castle. My Father came up to me several years ago and entrusted me to his big book of favourite books, all Diana Wynne Jones. Then...then... He came back to me in two years later and told me he made a mistake and he wanted them back....

I'm pretty much thinking of whatever I'm reading. I must try out those two authors you wrote about first.
books, good books like....Diana Wynne Jones, make the world go round.
I'm looking at Ruth Rendell this last couple of weeks, have you read her??
Ill def check put those first two authors though.
thanks.

Re: Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Hi everyone. I'm in awe of some of you for being so talented. Unfortunately I don't have an artistic bone in my body.

I'm into photography a bit and I have an awesome telescope so star, planet and moon gazing keeps me entertained for ages. Hope to get a solar filter soon so I can look at the sun too.

I got a tablet a couple of months ago and am hooked on a city building game. I also like the hidden object and match 3 games. Nothing wrong with an hour or so of game play every other day.

I collect leaves in the autumn and 4 leaf clovers in the summer. I seem to have the knack of finding them. I want to make a nice collage with my autumn leaves one day and then put that in a picture frame. Just need the time to make a start. I love all the beautiful colors.

I've always wanted to learn how to play the sax and hopefully this year I can take some lessons.

I love hearing what other people like to do. Really love the idea of bingo. I think I might even know someone who would love to go. Hmmm, that could become addictive too.

I love reading and watching good movies _ new and old.
