Exo's Exposé

Exo's Exposé

Looking for somewhere to hide in the Forum, no offense to anyone, I'm just kinda used to my own space - it feels safer to me. I often feel like I'm 'butting in' on other threads, I want to say something but it isn't 'in-line' with the current flow of conversation.

It rained here yesterday, dogs & cats weren't falling from the sky, but the grounds wet, there's puddles in my driveway & it's soooooooo sooooooo much cooler 😄 Guru Google even promises more!! After this weird wet stuff stopped dropping from above, I took the dogs for their walk, I do this almost every afternoon, but after a storm with close lightning strikes, my main purpose is to check the fence is still upright everywhere. I'm happy to announce it was all in tip-top shape 🙂 I noticed new puddle spots all the way around, I was sad that some trees had to be pushed over for the fence line, but the dip of their absence looks quite beautiful with a drop of moisture shimmering within. When I had completed the usual circuit I by-passed returning into the house-yard & wandered through to the dam. I think I may have been a little rain-drunk, I was hoping to see water in it, there wasn't any. I even went & stood in the very center of it's base, I think I was expecting to sink in mud - I didn't; but the cracks are gone . . . & they were huge. So if the Guru comes through with it's promise, there may yet be a puddle for my Staffy to play in 😉

I've decided to leave my camping trip to the beach for another week, rain wouldn't stop me - it rarely rains 24 hrs a day, but storms have - they often have devastingly strong winds that can break off & pick up reasonably heavy objects, that become dangerous ammunition. I've been emailing with the owners of this place, I'll still be in the off-peak season if I leave it another week - though I worry being so close to the Easter holiday, there's a more likely chance of more people. I keep telling myself I've just got to 'get over' that, that that would be all part of the experience - but I know I'm lying to myself. I picked this spot mainly because of the dog-friendly off-lead beach, but also because on the satelite view of Google maps I could see that there's no towns around it. It's one of the most isolated camping parks I've seen {that's within 5 hours of home, well - maybe just a little more}. It also admits it has old amenities, I saw negitive feedback about the place for those reasons - I think if you want to go to a resort . . . that's where you go - not to a place that describes itself as a rustic, old fashioned bush camping park 😉

Re: Exo's Exposé

Ahhhh . . . . at last, I even closed a couple of windows last night 🙂 I've got reasonably thick cotton trousers & a long sleeve t-shirt on . . . bliss 🙂 I'm still dealing with the camp gear, though the suitcase I use for materials, tarps, canvas's, privacy & warmth, is all re-packed & ready to put away; the camp mattress & topper are dry & ready to put away also, as is the roof rack bag {best camping accessory yet!} My favourite blanket is dry & on the bed {I really started thinking I was never going to put a blanket back on the bed!} I finally put my solar gear back in place {I've run out of power the past couple of nights, I really do rely on the 2nd system & the portable panel for the smaller batteries}, & I've already started gliding over Google & re-thinking. A 6 hour trip is a bit too far, especially after pack-up & go day, my body was quite sore for a few days, as much as I tried to deny it, I really looked like an old woman with every step I took & it's taken so much longer than previous trips to unpack. So I think it's time to start thinking about packing in such a way that I can have an overnight stay somewhere & not have to unpack everything for it. I think it's good to have something to think about, I think the more truthful reason I want to go camping is boredom . . . having something to do . . . . a way to actually live my life a little.

@Exoplanet Hi Exoplanet my ex loves taking son2 for camping trips and finds that he needs one night in a hotel to recuperate after spending several nights camping. His old bones and body just cannot handle full on camping anymore but he and my son2 still get out there and camp and love it :). greenpea xx

@Exoplanet When you find something that you like and can get out and about doing it then that is a bonus - and camping seems to do both of those things for you

Re: Exo's Exposé

I'm loving this seasonal change Mind you, I suppose eventually I'll be complaining about having to break branches for the fire 😉 I wonder if that'll happened this year? It's warmed up a bit, but it's not hot, still getting around 30 - which is doable, pleasant even 🙂 I'm still looking at the kitchen case & the general camp gear crate on the lounge room floor, but everything else is put away. The memory has faded like an old movie. I was looking through some photos on my computer yesterday & I came across a stack of mini-clips; my camera, like many digital cameras takes movie clips. These were of my Daughter & her family, & I even found a couple of the Staffy when I first got him {goodness he was cute!}. I have absolutely no recollection of taking them, or of the times that I'd captured on them, but I'm glad I did. I miss my Daughter but I don't miss the stress, I still think it's her own decisions that have shaped her own life. I've never felt like a good mother & this touch of relief that I still feel, feels a bit like bad mothering. I know she's struggling right now, but my efforts to reach out have been rather pathetic, though I have, in my own way, even asked my 2 surviving siblings for help.

Re: Exo's Exposé

Hi @Exoplanet . I might be getting this wrong but I’m wondering if you are able to do imagery exercises as in see things with your minds eye as they say. I ask this because it seems like you need a physical image to remember things too. There is a condition called aphantasia that I also have. I can’t picture things in my mind. I have to look at a physical photo to get a real image of anything. I have memories of things but they are not visual. I remember things like the brown snake I found in my tent camping once. I cannot remember anything visual about it though, like the campsite we were at or what the tent looked like etc. You may not have this either but I thought I’d run it past you.

It it sounds like you are in a reflective mood today. I hope the day goes ok for you. Give those puppies a hug from me too. 💜🤗

Re: Exo's Exposé

Hello @Teej , nice to hear from you. I don't think I have aphantasia {I'd never heard of it}; I did what everyone does when you mentioned it - I looked it up on the Guru, & when I read to 'picture' a beach & a sunset . . . . then a red triangle, I could do it. Though it wasn't the beach I just went to & who knows where I got the red triangle from? It's the memory that goes away - the moments. But when you said maybe I need a physical image to remember things, that rang a bell. Back when I used to talk to my siblings, sometimes as they were talking about something, the memory would come back, sometimes as clear as a bell ring. When I come across photos or letters or the likes & I have absolutely no recollection of them, yet it's obvious I was there, I took the photo or the letter was written to me, I get pretty sad - they're often good times of laughter & love & many of them are of my Daughter; & they're simply gone, not a trace left in my memory. When I look at them it's like I'm seeing them for the first time, yet in these movies I could hear my voice, see my hands & feet occasionally - I took them, & the sad thing is when I see them they don't trigger the memory of actually being there. I often wonder how many of these memories are gone. I know we don't remember anywhere near as much as we think we do, it's just not physically possible to remember everything, but I wish I could remember the good times, or at least how it felt to be happy.

I think I'll go to the next town over today, I put these little pellets into my little dogs food, they're for arthritus I think - though he's never shown any signs of pain, his little knees 'click' when the vet checks him over. There's a Woolies grocery store there, it seems I went camping on the day my 'pay' went in & didn't notice, so I haven't done my grocery shopping this fortnight. I'm getting a little tired of tinned & dry foods 😉 Might get some mince & make some spag bog?
