I love that bit about the chooks eating anything @TAB
We kept them for years - for eggs - and we threw scraps into the pen and they ate just about everything - and we ate the eggs - imagine that
Anyway - chooks only have a bird brain - all they need I guess - and if one grabbed one end of a piece of bacon rind the other one would grab the other end and they would fight each other - pulling it out of each other's mouth and squawking and scratching at each other with their feet
With a bunch of other rinds at their feet - they were entertaining if not bright
But clever enough to get away if they got out - I remember running around the backyard with a broom in either hand herding them back in the pen - fun
Loved those stupid chooks though - enough to get two new ones every year - they only last about a year
And the eggs - fantastic - free range eggs are something else again - esp as fresh as laid that very morning
