Partners who chose to stay for the long haul

Partners who chose to stay for the long haul

Living and loving someone with MI presents relationship challenges and often others cannot see why we chose to stay with our partners.

Being mindful of not intruding on others stories I thought having a thread where we can share tips and encourage one another would be of value.

@Former-Member Ask as many questions of the oncologist, as you have.

Actually we see hubbys oncologist tomorrow for 3-monthly checkup. Had Scans and blood tests last week. Hoping things are still being controlled by the residual immunotherapy drugs in his system. They wont be able to treat him again, if they stop protecting him, due to the extreme reaction that he had last time. So the leadup to these apts are pretty stressful affairs.

QTc ... Is that something to do with heart rhythm? Sorry for my ignorance.

I hope everything goes well. But please remember to tag me with any updates. 💗

@Former-Member QTc is a value on an ECG, my basic understanding is that if too high, risk greatly increases for a heart attack. The increase in QTc Mr D had was dose dependent and pdoc is hoping to have at least one more taper down.

Hope things go ok for you tomorrow.

Hi @Nett1

Come and meet some others that care for their long term partners. Feel free to ask any questions and we will see if we can help.

@Former-Member

How did you get on today?

We arrived at our appt only to have it rescheduled to next week as the doc had an emergency to attend to.

Hi @Former-Member ... Pretty good thanks 👍. Scans showed no further spread of cancer. Some issues with a few blood tests however. Will need to monitor that with follow up tests in a few weeks. Hubby is very relieved though 😀 At least until next lot of scans. 6 months this time, rather than 3 monthly, which is what we had been doing.

Re: Partners who chose to stay for the long haul

Hi Darcy and everyone. It's been awhile since the Trauma of Christmas and these weird times we are all experiencing haven't helped anyone. Hope somehow everyone has each other to hold.

I havent felt the need to talk but unfortunately hubby has gone off his meds and refuses to even talk about going back on them. It's been a tough few months for everyone and I'm just so very tired and worn out by the storm that lives in my husbands head. I have suspected for a few yrs now he might actually have the start of dementia as well as BPD ,paranoia ,Aspergers and just no idea where to even start.

I know he is terrified but it all comes out AT me he's angry all the time at everyone and everything.
His Phsych has been useless as my husband outwits him constantly on the intelligence levels but in reality no concept of time, space or sequence....no one has any interest in what I have to say. I live it everyday. I see it everyday and I can see something going very very wrong with him. It's not the BPD I know all those patterns and triggers. It's something other.
He has dementia in his family up until now I have been unwilling to discover it but I can no longer make excuses. This time I have no idea where to start. The Co v mess has heightened whatever is going on. Any advice would be welcome.
