Trying to be happy, isn’t working

Trying to be happy, isn’t working

I really try hard to face life positively, but it just isn’t working. I don’t feel physically well, though there is nothing specifically wrong with me. I have had long bouts of depression since my early twenties, and I am back there now for the last three years. The black dog has now been joined by severe anxiety and due to some very traumatic events that left me without mt career of 50 years I now have PTSD. This has only been recognised recently. I have no interest in friends or family. Have no money have had to move home and this been another trauma for me that I can’t seem to move past.

I live with my youngest son who is 35 and has his own mh ussues and can be very difficult.i constantly think about death as my only option. But I just want to be happy, not deleteriously so, just happy. I have no partner and still grieve for my husband who died many years ago.

I can find nothing enriching in life

That is enough for now. Peri

Re: Trying to be happy, isn’t working

Dear @Former-Member @Shaz51 and others who check up on me,

Here in Perth we are in the grip of a grey June. It has rained quite a bit too.

my arm is getting better after my fall, the cast has been off for a few weeks now, but it is still painful at times and I have limited movement. I am having therapy for it and have exercises to do.

there are still things I can’t do, but I can knit again, and am finishing a shawl I started a while ago

i have been feeling a bit better lately, I try to achieve something everyday, and to take my dogs for a walk.

I do not like winter and crave sunshine. I wish I could think of something interesting to say, but I can’t. I thank those who post to me and offer support, it does mean a lot

Re: Trying to be happy, isn’t working

Hi @Shaz51

@thank you for your kindness. Today I am feeling very low and sad. I am sick of trying to feel stronger and happier. I feel so alone in it . The sun is shining here and I love winter sunshine, but even that is not cheering me today. My son who I live with is nearly constantly critical of me and it makes me so unhappy, he is never loving or warm towards me. It makes me feel unlovable and unworthy. I will soon be turning 68, I don’t like that and I have wasted so many opportunities in my life.

I pray for some small joy

Re: Trying to be happy, isn’t working

Dear @Shaz51

thanks for your support. I am currently really struggling with the depression and anxiety. I feel really low and terrible and can find no joy. I can usually do something that will lift me out even a bit, but the last two weeks have been awful. My future feels really bleak to me and I don’t know how to face it or cope with these feelings. I don’t expect anyone to come up with a miracle cure, but the support here means a lot

Re: Trying to be happy, isn’t working

Dear @Peri

Hello my friend, it was so nice to see your name pop up in my notifications just now. I have been thinking of you a lot over the past few weeks. But as you know ... I have been somewhat preoccupied with other things over the last few weeks. I got home last night however, after my Mums funeral last Friday. I hope to be around again a bit more from now on. I would hope that I can try to offer some comfort and support to you, as you have done for me over a period of time.

So sorry you appear to have fallen into another black hole. I had thought you were sounding a little brighter last time I read an update from you. But I guess that is the typical roller coaster of depression and anxiety.

I dont think I can offer any real advice, because quite frankly, I guess you could say that I am in much the same condition as you right now. In a black hole, which looks steep and impossible to climb out of right now. But I will just founder around in the bottom of the hole for a time and regain some strength. Then I will try again to climb my way out of it. Although I cannot offer any solutions, I most certainly can relate to how you feel, and wish so much that I could help you. At least knowing that others care and support us, does mean a lot, as you rightly stated.

Please know that you can come here anytime you feel a need to talk ... about anything you want. This can offer a release that we often badly need. I hope to hear back from you again soon.

Sherry 🌸🐶💕
