Not coping with severe depression

Not coping with severe depression

Hello to all the beautiful people who contribute on these forums. I am a male aged 45 who has been battling with depression for several years. I have attempted suicide three times in the past and hospitalised on one occasion. My depression has been manageable with medication until a few months ago when the only close friend I had in my life passed away. I'm just not coping with being single, lonely and dealing with the death of my dear friend. I have a shy personality which makes it virtually impossible to meet females and build friendships. I'm also low on confidence and self esteem and believe I'm not good enough to be considered for a relationship. I have been on my own for my entire life and Don't know how much longer I can last being on my own and lonely. It's the first time I have shared my personal pain and suffering with anyone as I would find it too embarrassing and humiliating discussing it with a psychologist in person.

A find a job that challenges your mind is very fulfilling. Many, many, years ago, back in the black and white days, I, too, wanted to join the police. At the time, there was a height minimum of 5'4" and i am only 5'2". Sometimes I can scrape in for 5' 2 1/2" if i really stretch my neck.

I'm going to head off and have some dinner now. I will check in a bit later on to see if you have thought of any more questions. I have so many questions i would like to ask but I lack confidence when I cant see your face or eyes to know if they make you feel uncomfortable or sad or hurt or any of those nasty things.

Omg I forgot about the height requirement. I think it's so wrong to decline a person on that fact alone. I was unable to apply as I didn't have the mark required in english. I was a little lazy during my high school days and wasn't really an avid reader of books. Please feel free to ask me anything you have on your mind and assure you that you won't make me feel uncomfortable. Chat soon and enjoy your dinner

Here I go -

Do you have brothers and sisters? If yes, do you socialise with them very often?

Are your parents still alive? Is there anything you would like to say about them?

Do you have children? If so, would you like to talk about them?

Do you have anyone who you are close enough to that you can discuss your dark feelings with? Have you had negative experiences trying to explain to others how you are feeling?

Please only answer what you feel comfortable with.

I hope my questions did not upset you. Please only answer when you feel strong.

I am heading to bed now. I wish you a peaceful and happy night.

Until the morrow!

Re: Not coping with severe depression

@Jayneinpain I hope you enjoyed your dinner. I have two beautiful sisters, an older and younger. I used to socialise quite a lot with both of my sister's before my depression kicked in. My younger sister accompanied me to my trip to greece, also travelled to Melbourne with my older sister. I don't socialise with them as much as I'd like to these days but do still keep in regular contact with them. I'm fortunate to still have both my parents alive and they both mean the world to me. My mum would do anything for her children and is aa ver sweet likeable person. My father comes across as having a tough exterior but is a softy inside. Both of them have worked really hard. I don't have any children of my own unfortunately but have 3 nephews and nieces. I do occasionally discuss issues which are bothering me with family but mostly just attempt to deal with it on my own. I have trouble opening up to others as it makes me feel week which I now recognise is completely false. On the very few occasions that I have shared my personal feelings with someone else I have had motly positive and understanding reactions.

How was your day?

It was quite warm here today and my new meds seem to have kept me very tired. How do you cope with your work load when you are having a dark day?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hiya @Jayneinpain

As always it's lovely to hear from you. I had a reasonable day and thanks for asking. Had my niece and nephew over for a couple of hours tonight which was quite nice . In relation to working during my darkest moments, I tend to deal with it better as I'm more focused with the task I'm undergoing. I tend to struggle more during quite periods or when I'm at home as my mind tends to get preoccupied with negative thoughts. Sorry to hear that your medication is making you feel quite tired. I'm definitely no expert but I think there is an adjustment period associated with changes. I think you should definitely keep your doctor informed though. I really hope those symptoms disappear for you. We had similar weather here today as well. I heard it will be even warmer tomorrow. Aside from being tired have you noticed any improvements in the way you feel?
