Re: A question for the ladies

Thanks @CheerBear
I just wondered what made you decide whether an IUD was the right/not right one for you?
like how did you weigh it up?

it was such a bugger to get put in but im not sure if its the right one/sort. its basically my only option im open too (cant hide pills and not doing needles can cant hide the one that goes in the arm) so I was hoping to would work. im not sure if its right though so wondered what made you think it was right/not right?

ill talk to the gynae next week about it too but hes not usually helpful in helping me decide what to do with these things

Re: A question for the ladies

I really don't like it @outlander and have had a few and not lasted very long with each. The side effects are significant for me as they seem to be for all forms of hormone based contraceptive. But the deciding factor for me with it now is for the contraceptive use. I am pretty certain that without it I would be facing another oopsies and I am not doing that again. I spoke with my GP and a specialist about more permanent options but they said very unlikely given my age 😏 Super annoying.

Sorry to hear it doesn't seem to be great for you either. It really is such a pain to have to deal with it all.

Re: A question for the ladies

mm it is a pain @CheerBear im not really sure what to do. its more to try and control cramping, ble--eding that sort of thing but its not doing that.

some months I think yay its starting to work but then other months it comes back with a vengeance with 2 periods in one months and unrelating cramping. sometimes its lighter but its a lot longer and can go for almost 2 weeks. its been 7 months on it now so I think im past the wearing in date. im not overly sure what to do

oh yes I don't think you need any more oopsies 😬

don't worry I already asked for more permanant solutions and they said no to me too 😏:face_with_rolling_eyes:

can I ask if when you've had them removed if you had any side effects? im worried since ive had it so long now it might be awful getting it removed and the following days after as well

Re: A question for the ladies

Sounds pretty much the same as what I experience too @outlander. It hasn't really eased things significantly enough to be worth it for me if it wasn't for the contraceptive factor, and it has definitely made things unpredictable. It's a case of the lesser of the evils for me which isn't ideal. Now my body has done the making human thing enough times, I want it all out and I want out of it all 😉😆

I haven't had noticeably awful crashes or any experience with the horror stories of having it no longer there. But everyone is different and just because something is the case for one person doesn't mean it will be the case for anyone else.

It's frustrating that you don't have a helpful doctor to talk with about. I was very stuck with this one but was well supported by my Dr which helped a lot. I think that's really important with tricky decisions and when considering options etc.

Re: A question for the ladies

I had a feeling when you said unwanted side effects it might be similar to what im experiencing. i don't have the need for contraception comparison so its hard to know what i want to do.

my body hasn't done the human making thing but geez im ready for it all out and out of it all too!
there is a high chance i may end up having a laproscopy done at some point because he still thinks i have endo as well (suspected also around the bladder because of a specific unusual symptom) so im wondering if it might've flared some things up since its got hormones in it as well.

i honestly don't have anyone to talk to. i cant tbh, how would i explain the need for it (i could explain that i guess) but they are also going to wonder how they got it in in the first place since i don't have kids and if it wasn't for my past i would still be classed as 'innocent'
i don't know what the gynae will say-probably wait longer and see if itll work. im scared to get it back out so ill prob agree with him but honestly the side effects may not be worth it esp this far down the track. 🤦‍♀️ @CheerBear
i guess i have the option to get it reput back in again later on if i got it removed

Re: A question for the ladies

I really hope that you're able to find something that makes it better for you @outlander. Dealing with all of this really can be hard.

I felt a bit of a shudder at the idea of 'innocent' and that you are in a situation where being 'innocent' equates to that. Everything about sexuality and reproductive health etc is made sooooo much harder by views and opinions along those lines, and I imagine it could make your past awful experience even more difficult 🙁

One thing though, this one can and is used regardless of 'past experiences' so a) it is nobody's business but yours and b) having an IUD means nothing more than having an IUD.

❤

Re: A question for the ladies

it really does make it more difficult because of my past @CheerBear my gynae doesn't know about the past so when he asks when was the last time you were sexually active, how many partners etc it makes it very awkward to answer, I am honest in the time length but theres always a hesitation in responding. my nurse and my previous gp knows (the gp that decided to up and leave without telling me leaving me with a clinic of male drs 🤦‍♀️) but my nurse respected my decision not to say anything to him and didn't put anything about it in the referral

I had to giggle at your A response
'its nobodys bussiness' I can imagine you standing there hands on hips with a 'tone' 😂

i know its no ones business but it always plays in my mind that someone especially family might find out about it. i was told it cannot be inserted unless you've been active before but im thinking it might not be the case since they encourage people from the age of 18 or 21 cant remember which to get pap tests done whether you've had sex or not.

Re: A question for the ladies

im trying to write up a pro and con list for it-so far there really aren't many pros happening or not ones that aren't overruled by the cons. i think ill need to have a good chat to the gynae about it and really get his opinion on it not just brush it off and 'wait' again unless he can explain maybe why to wait longer now that im out of the breaking in period for it

Re: A question for the ladies

That would be ultra hard @outlander and I am very sorry it is something you have experienced and that you need to still deal with and be reminded of.

I have hidden things from family before -big stuff along the lines as what you are keeping to yourself. It can be incredibly hard to work through it all. Painful and suffocating almost.

Pros and cons list is a good idea, as is asking for further info and advice.

I went full hands on hips with point A haha. Not at you at all, but at anyone with the attitude of "innocent". I also deleted a big rant about hoping you feel OK to tell anyone with that attitude to well and truly jam it. "Not helpful CheerBear" was running through my head.

I gotta fly. I have things to do to get ready for work tomorrow. Thinking of you and glad you reached out and asked. Sorry I couldn't be more help but I hear you and care ❤

Re: A question for the ladies

Haha @CheerBear i love your ranting sometimes you know. they can be quite amusing to read. oh don't worry i know it wasn't directed at me, i read it as a general thing but had to giggle cause i can just see that mum attitude stance.

im sorry you've had to hide big stuff too, it really does make it so much harder, overwhelming and anxiety provoking too.

No, you have been helpful actually so thank you. and thanks once again for being open to talking about this stuff too
