Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

@PeppiPatty,

I know you do wonderful work in your neighborhood, it must have been really scary for you and hubby to have your home violated, I know the strain of financial difficulties living on new start and DSP but that is still no excuse.

You should really have reported it to police so they have a record of the incident.

It may be a good idea to just let things cool down, by the sounds of it everyone is irritable, it may be time to just look after you and hubby for a while.

Can you fix the door and gate?

Sorry to hear this has happened to you and hubby Anne, I have been threatened before with weapons it is really scary.

Dear @PeppiPatty, @Jacques,

Anne, I agree with Jacques about what you are already doing with shutting the doors for now. It seems important for you and hubby to have some quiet time as much as is possible. You know me... I also suggest you take Arlo to the beach for a little bit of time away from home. I've got an appointment with myself to do that later and will be thinking of you. Sorry you are going through this. Sending hugs.

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

It seems so unfair that

I've rung and rung Department of Housing to get support for my neighbour and they say; thats not our problem;

then they did and the woman who came; from an agency; just yelled at her.

It feels like the people here do not know how to get support and their problems just get worse and worse.

I'lle get down the beach soon @Mazarita Im too freaked out to go anywhere or I'lle fall apart, the elderly lady is taking me to see a film next week.

I wish there was a Psychologist to manage the units and then.....maybe the Psychologist could spend their time visiting each and every person here. It would be hard work though !!

I live in a fab. area, I dont know I would ......reccomend anyone to live in public housing unless they have huge support like I have got.

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

@PeppiPatty, I understand your frustration that people around you are not getting support they seem to need. It would be great if there was an advocate for the people in your units. I hear how anxious you are. The main thing just now seems to be trying to get some quiet time.

@Former-Member, are you okay? Thinking of you with what your partner has said about changes in plans.

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi @PeppiPatty, oh i know i should not, @Former-Member said no politics or religion, but i need to say this, it is disgusting how the government treat poor, MI, and people doing it tough. In Australia with all the wealth their should not even be homeless in Australia, it is disgusting, i will leave it at that, i will get into trouble if i go any further.

Sorry Anna, this will be the last time i say anything about politics here.

Sorry to keep bothering you @PeppiPatty, but have you thought about telling the lady you help to go to the Salvo's or Vinnies? they can both help her out with groceries and bills... just a thought.

hugs for you and Mr Arlo

Dear @Jacques

Poor Anna I am so sorry I'm going to mention these things too.

I need your support @Jacques and @Mazarita.

I just had a long sleep. Where I live, in Western Australia, when Tony Abbott came into power, all funds were cut to St Vincent De Pauls and to Aglicare and the Salvation Army.

Without making any judgements; people around me spend their money on feeling sane via using illiciant substances and alcoholic drinking than food. So these cutting of funds have affected the poeple around where I live.

It is very sad. After over 12 months of support from me, my neighbour is happy to mainly keep on her medication for the first time in her life and talk about it, but hasnt stopped her choice of what to purchase though.

I truly do not believe that politicians like what Anna is talking about are the right people for the job of caring for people who live who struggle or who live with SH unless they have had either a first hand experience or say...have worked in a place like this and read and read and hear and heard real suffering for many many hours.

My poor neighbour, when she gets any extra money, from Centrelink, she blows the lot on illicient substances and alcohol. It is how it is. Her whole life is about ...who is getting their pension next, who owes her money, when she can score next.

If there was different help out there,

I believe;

more people around where I live would have a different outcome.

It would be very hard though. I think it could be achieveable.

It is so so sad and hard. I'm very lucky with how I've not let people in my home.

Dear @Former-Member

I've been reading past messages of yours and others. They are similar to what my husband feels...not the same but similar......

Can you have a rest today?

Are you able to say, I'm feeling confused today and need to do what I need to do....

You are resiliant and I have a picture of a young lady getting told she is resiliant with a whole lot of mess happening around her.

I so like your messages Anna

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all...

Sorry for not posting much this week... I've just been exhausted & had a few fights with my partner.... I think it is sorted ~ I think he wants a kid/kids & that would make a mundane job worthwhile for him. As some of you may know ~ he is a mechanic by trade & worked as a foreman for Mercedes Benz, but can no longer use his skills due to rsi that was not fixed even after two operations. Anyhow, I do want a child or 2, but I read statistics that scared me about the likelihood of children of parents with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia & bipolar being very likely to develop mental health problems. Anyhow... At the moment the focus is still to get off the medication. Hopefully I eventually will be well enough to return to study, get a degree, have a career helping people (not necessarily full time) & have a child or 2.... My partner seems to believe I can eventually "do it all". Meanwhile, I'm laying on the couch exhausted after doing a load of dishes!

This week I got to yoga on Tuesday, Saturday & Sunday. On Tuesday I was very self critical, Saturday my yoga instructor encouraged me re getting stronger (again) & told me I look beautiful doing yoga ~ & today I got a bad spot to practice ~ right next to the mirrors & away from the instructor ~ it was a very tough class & I looked at my red sweaty face in the mirror & thought "I do not look beautiful doing yoga!" Anyhow, 1 month of 3 x a week yoga now.

I am so exhausted....

I mainly just want no religion in this thread ~ that is what is triggering. In saying that I personally don't want to talk about politics ~ both sides of the fence seem pretty lousy at funding mental health.

Hi @Ellie ~ sorry to hear about your troubles with medications. I hope you get the help you need to sort it out. @PeppiPatty's post implied you have BPD ~ have you tried dialectal behaviour therapy?

@PeppiPatty your troubles with your neighbours make me not want to apply for housing commission. I do not drink alcohol & I have never taken illicit drugs. The application process is already causing me stress. Anyhow, I hope it settles down for you.... I'll probably go through with the application, but hope that I'll be in a position not to have to take it...

Thanks for asking how I am @Mazarita ~ the fights & situation with my partner is really too difficult for me to explain properly... As I've said before I have trouble interpreting what people say & my partner said I had misinterpreted him. Although, I'm still unsure of what he was originally trying to say.... Plus this week I've just been overwhelmingly tired & spent a lot of time in bed. I just re-read another John Grisham novel & I want to try to find some other books I might like to read ~ see if I can get them through the library or buy them cheap using booko ~ however, I've just been too tired to "research"

Hi @Jacques, @Appleblossom....

Namaste,

A

Hi dear @Former-Member,

Wow your partner is full on with his plans for the future, the trip, choldren, wow, he is not holding back. Well at least you know his wants and needs, you now have to search your mind and heart to figure out if that is what you want, and if their can be some bargening to find a solution that both of you are omfortable with.

I know the fear and worry you have with having children, that is why i never want children, i could not bear to see someone else go through life like i have to, it is so cruel.

I hope you and your partner can come to some middle ground maybe these things will be possible in time.

Wishing you and your partner all the best, it sounds like you both communicate really well, that is what makes a great partnership.

Hugs my friend. you are in my thoughts.

Jacques
