Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

@Former-Member Dont think you need to respond to me quickly ... I am used to slow time ... I dont take a mobile with me ... a response in a week or thereabouts is fine ... when I first joined the forum it was the beginning of me getting timely responses at all ... so have been grateful for that.

Dont you love @Shaz51 new pic?? Go Shaz

Hi all...

Thanks @RG01

@Shaz51 that is a beautiful parrot in your profile picture! I'm glad your husband is doing better now & a lot of people need to take it slowly with medication reduction. Is he coping with work at the moment?

@Former-Member sounds like a good workout - I like the sound of going up a mountain (although I prefer the sound of running DOWN a mountain!) I'm glad you got a chance to get out & have a break from your 'busyness'. You are doing your best & that is what matters. How are your kidlets? Are they getting the help they need? My partner has had a mri, ultrasound & two cortisol injections - the surgeon said the bone has healed better than they could set it amazingly, however he has two tears in the muscle, which are causing the pain - they have put him on the physiotherapy waiting list (yes, another waiting list - arghhhh) He actually wants to see if they can fix the tears surgically - he has never had much success with physio in the past for a range of issues - rsi, sciatica, scoliosis etc. I just wish he was in less pain, could sleep better & more people cared than just me, because I can't help much!! He has started cycling when I go to yoga, which is good for him & makes me glad. I got to yoga today, which was good....

@Appleblossom - sorry if I don't reply within a week at times!! I get paranoid when people don't reply to emails, sms & facebook messages - I'm usually good with those forms of communication myself, but I know I can be slack here. Thankfully the sky watered the garden for me today, as a receptionist for my psychiatrist caused me to cry when I rang after yoga & I didn't really get over the stress of it until my partner woke me to go to the supermarket after 5. I gardened when I was a child. This is the biggest garden I've had as an adult. The lavender doesn't grow during winter - looking forward to that taking off when it gets warmer (although I'm enjoying the cold!)

I'm going to shut down the laptop - I'm finding I don't enjoy splitting my attention with the laptop & tv shows/movies like I used to. If I just do one thing I find I experience less anxiety. The MASH movie is on soon.

Namaste,

Anna

Hi @Shaz51

Thank you for thinking of me *HUG*

I am feeling extremely anxious right now....

I am waiting for my partner to cook dinner & I have asked "what's for dinner" twice & he is still "busy" on facebook on his phone.... I haven't had food for for 5 hours & I'm really hungry - nights like this I really wish I had a 'proper' place to call home or at least a house with a proper kitchen & no alcoholics in sight....

I'm really anxious about my upcoming surgeries to have my wisdom teeth to be extracted...

Paranoia is slowly creeping in more & more & I'm worried I'm headed towards psychosis again - I'm going over & over what people have said - even what people have said years ago.... I'm trying to work out the true meaning & my mind is constantly racing - even at yoga.... I feel very 'fat' & am not coping with the eating disorder demons - I tried to eat less today & that is why I really need food now, but my partner is in his own world.....

I feel horrible....

Hope you & hubby are 'okay'

Namaste,

A

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

So sorry to hear about your anxiety @Former-Member. The dreadful negative anticipation we can experience pre surgery is really hard to handle. Have you got ways of calming yourself that have worked for you before?

Can you make a snack to have while you wait for hubby to cook dinner? If you can you won't feel so desperately hungry.

Self care is important for you at the moment.
Thinking of you 💕
