Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

Hi @Former-Member Glad you are still posting. Maybe feeling is strange is just an unfamiliar feeling. You have had a lot of stress and trauma and maybe this is another part of you with less medication ... if it doesnt actually feel bad ... then dont over think it just register the feeling state and be aware. It took me a long time to get used to laughter ... feeling happy and light hearted ... weird ... I would tie myself in knots about different feelings ... but in the end ... just accept your feelings and go with the flow of your life. Up or lower meds as you feel to find the level that suits you.

Sorry the whole surgery thing was a schemozel ... spelling? Let us know how things progress.

cheers Apple

Hi @Appleblossom...

Thank you for your reply & kind words (as always)....

When you reduce psychotropic medications it creates a chemical imbalance - your body has to learn to create chemicals that it stopped creating - this is why I'm feeling 'strange', but my partner said I am doing "5000% times better" with this reduction (despite my huge breakdown the other morning)... Today I feel okay - I got to yoga & it was a nice gentle class to ease back into it. My regular instructor was away & the girl instructing has a wrist injury (not from yoga, but from carrying her baby) & therefore can't do arm balances ect. I was surprised my balance was still good in tree pose & variations... I hope to go again tomorrow & Sunday for hot yoga.

I just watered the garden & weeded while doing so - it is hard to get the small weeds, so it is not perfect! My partner planted marigolds in a triangle border to put vegetables in between. The Muscovy ducks ate them, but he put some mesh over them now- so they should grow back & we brought more to make another triangle. So we have lavender, rosemary, cornflowers, gazanias, hibiscus, bird of paradise & marigolds...

I hope you are doing okay @Appleblossom... I get random Night Shift emails, but don't have the energy to keep up with such a dynamic conversation at the moment. I might be at Friday Feast tonight. I'm getting quite tired. I came home from yoga, showered & wanted to lay down... I might lay down now for a bit...

I hope you are enjoying music & your son is doing well!

Namaste,

Anna

Use the forum in the best way that suits you.

Glad you have a garden @Former-Member

Oh dear naughty ducks. When I first started gardening every issue would upset me .. ( hadnt grown up gardening a lot) I was sook for plants ... but I managed to detach and just watch the ebbs and flows and cycles of nature.

i do due dilligence ... and then what will be will be ... and one great thing about a garden is that it does its own thing .. some things really flourish and astound me ... others die off ... then pop back every year ... i dont want toal control .. I want to learn about the growing world.

glad you coped with replacement teacher .. stuff happens everywhere.

Also glad you are staying with your plan to reduce meds ... just dont do it too tough ... Be kind to you.

Namaste ... you rubbed off on me I thought of your namaste when I said good bye to some people this week.

Hi @Shaz51 & @Appleblossom...

I'm really sorry for a delayed reply again - I feel really bad - I try hard to reply to people promptly, as it often makes me paranoid when people don't reply to me (not really on here though...) I'm really anxious right at this moment - I just feel like I'm not going anywhere - It's just an endless struggle - I will trly to respond better soon...

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi @Former-Member...

I haven't been around much either....

I'm doing 'okay' I guess...

This reduction of the antipsychotic is the easiest so far. It gives me hope that I will be able to further reduce it THIS year.

I only got to yoga twice last week I planned to go Saturday & Sunday, but both days I was exhausted & I had a bit of a headache & toothache, which was my excuse. The plan is to go to yoga Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday this week - Saturday I am watching the Olympics opening ceremony! I know I talk about getting to yoga a lot, but I often feel like it is the only thing I am achieving.

I'm getting better at watering the garden more often. Today I watered it & then spent a concentrated effort weeding. Usually I just try to weed a bit as I water.

I'm reading The Dressmaker, but I've only read a good chunk in one sitting last week. I tried to read today, but I had an upset stomach due to anxiety & couldn't concentrate - I ended up falling asleep. We found The Hundred Year Man who Climbed Out the Window on special at a bookshop, so I have a book lined up to read when I finally finish The Dressmaker - both have been made into movies.

Hi @Shaz51 - thinking of you x

Hi @Appleblossom - thinking of you x

Hi @Mazarita - miss talking to you, but I can't keep up with Night Shift. I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday. The new Star Trek was my favorite!

There is a show on SBS about personality now, so I'm going to watch that.

Let me know how you all are if you want...

Namaste,

A

My Hubby was told to reduce his meds , he did it too quick

so we went back to the doctor and now my hubby is slowly reducing his meds, which is good

some days he finds he needs an extra one , but the doctor said this is ok

Hello @Former-Member, @Appleblossom, @Former-Member, @Jackie, @Mazarita , thinking of you today , hope you are ok xx
