Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

Just a rant -

Last night my partner said I couldn't go to yoga this morning, because he had too much stuff to do to prepare before surgery. He just got out of bed & I could of done my yoga practice & we would have been home now - & now he is just watching tv. I have had a really hard week & only got to yoga on Tuesday - walk/ran WITH him on Wednesday - even though I just wanted to non stop run - walking doesn't have the endorphin effect on me. Thursday was horrible at my psychologist appointment & yesterday I didnt go to yoga so I would have the energy to help tidy the cabin - & I became extremely anxious & couldnt sleep till about 1am. Anyhow, I really NEED yoga & I don't have space in this small cabin to do some on my own... He won't let me drive myself anywhere, because he is afraid I will hurt myself - but it means I have no freedom & independance & on days like this I really needed to just go - now my anxiety is through the roof & I feel like I'm going to break... Hopefully the short charity run tomorrow helps somewhat & I probably won't be alowed to go to yoga on Tuesday, as he will leave everything to the last minute - so yay a week of stress to look forward to - more things to do & no way to unload the stress properly, as I won't be able to go to yoga for days after his surgery - until he feels okay to be in the car. I know it sounds selfish, but I'm not going to be much help if I'm stressed, jumping out of my skin, crying & breaking apart..... Only had about 4 hours sleep, so am going to go back to bed & just lay there - I think the insomnia has made an untimely return....

Thanks for reading,

Namaste,

A

Hi @Former-Member,

How are you doing? Sounds like you're in the middle of a stressful week, and it seems even more challenging because your outlets have been taken away from you.

As @NikNik mentioned, remember (as cliche as it sounds) take one day at a time. While I know that each person's yoga practice is very unique and personal, I find that moments like now can be an opportunity to integrate the lessons of yoga to life - non-attachment, breathing, and acceptance. Some days your yoga practice will feel great, other days it won't be how we'd like it to be. Yoga teaches us to approach both situations with a level of acceptance, knowing that tomorrow will also be different also. For me, some days, I feel bendy, other days, I feel really stiff and sore. This reminds me not to get attached to the ideal version of being super bendy and strong, but to remain in equanmous in different states that I experience in the body. Applying these lessons to life can be helpful. This is a good lesson for the days when I can't practice yoga. It reminds to not get attached to the ideal, but to know that my yoga practice will still be there to dip into the next day. It also means that I can practice yoga in different (not so physical) ways such as practicing compassion, self-love (eating well, nurturing your body, and treating youself with compassion).

Hope this makes sense. On a physical level, it seems that's being active helps you feel grounded. It's a real pity that you can't get out and about, event to go for a run. Would you be able to get out if someone else was with you? Would your partner be ok with that?

Hope this weeks gets better. Remember, one day at time and that you're not alone. @BlueBay @Shaz51 @eth

Hi @CherryBomb
I'm struggling today. Always when I am at work I can't cope with all the work and pressure.
Wish I was home. It seems that I am really bad with depression anxiety and negative thoughts when at working I think because I don't cope with all the stress.
I don't know ☹

Hi @CherryBomb, @BlueBay, @Former-Member...

I've been up since 3am & can't sleep - here is the deal...

Yesterday the hospital rang both of us & said we thought we last saw *my partner* in Feb 2016 - the surgery was supposed to be 12 months ago - blood work is good, you are in good health - surgery is still on - see you tomorrow - wake up at 3am - leave at 4am - had to be at hospital in Brisbane at 6am - go through admission - up to day surgical ward - by this time I'm struggling to stay awake - he gets called in, so I leave about 7ish - scared I will have an accident, so have a half strength coffee (always drink decaf, hardly ever drive these days...), go to my mum's, about 9ish message from partner - surgery cancelled - basically the bone has healed amazingly well (go vegan power!), but to the wrong bone (thanks doctors & hospital administration stuff ups...), will ring him with an appointment for mri, then he will go on another waiting list for a different surgery (we are both apprehensive about going ahead with it now after all the stuff ups - any other industry these doctors would be fired).... Yes, I was worried about coping, but I am beyond frustrated - I just wanted him to be able to have a decent night sleep again... Anxious, frustrated & just need sleep...

I love your wisdom re yoga & life @CherryBomb... Thank you

@BlueBay - sorry work is so hard for you - is disability an option? Is it just a particularly hard time or has it been like this for a long time?

@Former-Member - glad your boy's appointment went well & he got a wonderful nurse. Glad work helps keep your mind busy, even if it is a challenge....

Namaste,

I can understand the feeling of anxiousness after the upheaval process and then all for nothing! I really hope you've managed some sleep by now.

Re: Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

aButterfly, hi this is jackie and I feel for you. I am a depressant. I think you express yourself well and know what you want. Change to being in a good place with your partner and at least reducing your meds. I am sure you know that to always tell your doctor what you are doing with your dosages and after telling her how much better you feel that if she doesn't agree that if you want further reduction, then maybe you should go by what she says. Good on you for the assertive way you had approached her.

I have had to take note of my emotions and attitudes to decide where to go, and what to say what to and it is soooo tiring to keep check of my emotions. I am hoping with more involvement with the right people that i will regain the confidence i need.

Take care and i am looking forward to hearing more about your medication and that you are making progress. Jackie.

Hi @Jackie, @Shaz51 & @Former-Member.....

@Jackie thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry I have not replied earlier. I got a laptop with an advance payment from Centrelink in March. Thank you for your offer, but we are also not allowed to exchange contact details here....

On Saturday I reduced the dose of antipsychotic once again. My psychiatrist agreed to the reduction, but I was vague & put a positive spin on my symptoms in order for her to do so. I am honest with my psychologist, but after my psychiatrist tried to make me have ECT last year I lost trust in her.... I have been feeling STRANGE - crying more & had a big breakdown yesterday morning - thanks to my partner I am still here.... Sorry, I don't really know what to say, as I'm just feeling strange...

I am sleeping more & don't feel up to doing much. I am going to try to go back to yoga tomorrow almost 3 weeks off - I had the flu for two weeks...

Thinking of you @Shaz51

Thank you for the kindness - Wishing health to all....

Anna
