Support needed, support given ~ no religon or politics please...

Hi all....

I reduced my antipsychotic dose on Monday night. My psychiatrist said I could when I saw her late last month. I waited a week & a bit as finances were extra stressful.... I had extra of my benzodiazpine last night. My psychiatrist approved an increase of the dose of benzodiazpine, but I haven't needed much extra yet. I slept half of today (unusual for me lately) & then my partner got me out of the cabin & to a cafe. So far I just feel slightly more anxious & a feeling of detachment. I asked my partner how I seemed & he said "despondent". Last year I reduced the antipsychotic dose twice: the first time I remember an increase in paranoia & anxiety plus irritability. The 2nd time I was extremely anxious & irritable. That happened in the first half of the year. In the 2nd half I was hospitalised twice for a total of 2 months. I had some psychotic symptoms (I did even on maximum dose), but the main issue was the antidepressant I had been taking since 2012 started to give me more frequent & disturbing vivid nightmares, which were often ptsd related. It is a common listed side effect of that medication to get vivid dreams. Therefore, I withdrew of that & tried the newest antidepressant on the market, but experienced persistent nausea. That meant that I had then tried all the newer generation antidepressants - some more than once. I tried a tricyclic, one of the newer generation again & a maoi. I decided to try a mood stabiliser I had been on before on a low dose. Now I am just on the mood stabiliser ~ no antidepressant. The dose is the typical dose for depression. It took about 4.5 months to feel like it was helping or "working" ~ although it may have been placebo effect, time & yoga practice that actually helped. Anyhow, I am back on track now to be able to reduce my medications. I found the psychiatrist who is helping me by googling "holistic psychiatrist" ~ my partner rang the practice & the receptionist suggested my doctor instead of the one I found online. From the beginning I made it clear that I wanted to reduce my medications. She has been mostly supportive, but at times has tried to increase dosages & wanted me to have ect. I have had to be assertive & determined ~ a hard ask at times when I have been extremely suicidal. I have read research that found long term use of antidepressants increases episodes of depression & long term use of antipsychotics increases episodes of psychosis. Also lots of research on benzodiazpines causing anxiety & depression plus addiction. The research is convincing & I'm tired of the side effects. I have now found a psychologist who specialises in cbt for psychosis. I feel if I can get through these difficult withdrawals I will be able to manage my mental illnesses & live more fully. My partner & even my psychiatrist have said I am more alive now.

This is my journey ~ I'm not trying to convince others to go off their medication... I just want support & people to know I'm not doing it because I am okay, but doing it to become more okay ~ if that makes sense...

Please talk about anything in here. I just need a thread without religon, which is triggering to me.

Namaste,

Anna

Hi PeppiPatty.

I did get those pages thank you, but not until I did a bit of back-scanning to find them. I don't log on here every day, so 5 pages of posts soon turn into 6, then 7 etc and I had to go back a long way to find those pages. Since I was diagnosed, I've read so much about BPD that my head was swimming with all the info. It took me awhile to fully understand that I actually had a major problem and required help with it. So desperate was I to get better (even if not perfect) I sold my home and moved an hour and a half to a new major Victorian city just so I could get into a DBT program. They do have much better care here than I was receiving in my old home town, but even now I often feel rejected and lost. It's early days of DBT yet and I still have a long way to go, but I think some aspects of the program are helping.

The homework can be difficult because this week we were supposed to use "TIP" skills to reduce emotions following a crisis, but I've either been busy with doctor's appointments and blood tests, then follow-up GP appointments to actually have a major crisis. I've been visiting a friend regularly, but we just sit around bored all day while she smokes something she really shouldn't and eats herself out of house and home. She's on a depot medication. So a "crisis" never really arose, therefore I haven't done that part of my homework or used the skills and we have to go through it at DBT this very afternoon. I feel like a little school girl who's going to get told off for not doing the homework, even though I know that's not how they operate.

Yet another change of medication too. Drop my old meds and only use the new ones. Totally useless!! I barely got any sleep at all, which is an early warning sign that I'm becoming unwell. I'm really struggling to see why I keep trying to survive at all. I'm older and have no prospects of ever having anyone meaningful in my life again. My future down here has also become a little murky and causing me stress. Funds are a worry as most of you will know. I'm officially employed, but only work one day a week and so my weekly income is actually worse than the dole and I can't get rent assistance either. It's really wearing me down as I watch the last of my savings fitter away and I have nowhere to turn.

Anyway, I'll battle on as best I can and that's all any of us can do I suppose. For those of us with a MI, life throws us some curved balls as the Americans say, but we just have to hang in there. We only get one shot at this old world and I'm trying hard to realise that. Sometimes eternal rest seems the better option, but I know it's not and so keep on struggling.

Kind regards to you all,

Ellie.

a, my husband is on depot needle once per fortnight......and about 2 days before, he starts to change......

I have been thinking about you since I posted half of the diagnosis. I was praying it wasnt going to caise more harm than good because all this.....info......

I'm 48 years old. I went to the GP on Monday, feeling really really insecure, I was saying to my husband.....should we change our doctors, do you think I'm wasting their time?

But I have an appiontment to see a Psychiatrist asap. cool. They really are wonderful doctors I see. He is seeing these doctors to morrow. Fantastic. They really really want to help poor people and people struggling with times of MI. and other unmet needs.

You write that you sold your home. I guess, thinking positively that you can spend times thinking of new ways of expressing my creativity. theres a great Anne Tyler novel....Ille find the name of it that is about restarting after 60 years old.

What I've liked about your posts in the past, is that you acknowledge how you are but you seem to also...float to other people's lives and touch on their stuff and then, get on with it. This doesnt really make sence does it. I like your ....ability to take care of yourself online so wondering if this reaches into your own life?? Just a little murkyilly.

I like you visit your friend who is struggling with depot. My husband has had years of this but at 48, amazingly, he turned his back on it to be with me.

So what about the green....... jeepers kreepers, My husbands story is on ...Welcome WEdnesday, a few have been posted after it by @Strugglingmum and @Drac0

Like you and so many other pople on this soderful site, we will not be given awards but just to visit this lady deserves an award and I acknowledge your compassion. At 48 years old, I feel that my life is drawing into .....maybe working in my own area. I workas a carer in the community just 2 jobs per fortnight. But my passion is artwork and my dog Arlo. But me and husband, we try and do something nice each day xx
