Let’s talk about SI

Let’s talk about SI

Hello,

Currently the discussion about suicide prevention is often in the media. I think it is something worth talking about here too.

I started struggling with SI and SH since my early teens after an abusive childhood. I won’t go into details re my SI. I continue to struggle to this day, often every day. I sometimes wonder if the thoughts will ever go away or if it’s more managing them for the rest of my life. I actually think I’ve posted about this before... seems a revolving door for me.

Anyway, I have a prevention plan with warning signs, coping strategies, quotes, safe places, phone numbers and a reason to go on - I think I have to work on that one at some point. It’s literally a lifeline for me. Even when I was in hospital crying in my bed, sobbing, i looked at my prevention plan and repeatedly told myself ‘this is a safe place, I put it on this piece of paper when I was well’. It’s weird and sad that the same brain can function so differently at times. Sometimes I beat myself up, that I can’t even do that. Sometimes I think no one cares as I’ve had these thoughts for too long and they’re not valid. I wonder if they are actually not valid. Perhaps it’s just a game my mind plays with me. It makes me tired.

If you identify with the subject, how do you manage?

@Former-Member Oh Kirin maybe just stay in the background and take a breather like I did. We have spoke often over these months that we have gotten to know each other quite well , you are a lovely person who will be missed if you are away too long 🙂

Hi @NikNik

I can’t answer to your post ‘responsive’ so I do it here. I’ve been trying to get involved and volunteer with Sane and be active on the forum and try to get myself better. But I will take a break, I am happy that you have so many people wanting to volunteer for all sorts of things at Sane, but I am struggling a lot with the ‘rejection’ and feel I’m not good enough, active enough, positive enough, well enough... I know that is not what anyone at Sane would want me to feel, but it does impact me. So I will take a break from everything here. It does really upset me.

Please take care of you and take all the time you need ... to get where you want to be.

@Former-Member

Edited ... I just read the Netiquette thread and realised you were upset by it. @Former-Member

Your points on it were totally relevant, so I am glad you expressed yourself, JUST AS YOU DID. I was trying to write my own response to the thread at the same time.

Truly Ruly Take Care no matter what you do.

Dont take the sense of triggering or rejection personally. I feel it a bit as well.

Self Care for now tho.

Re: Let’s talk about SI

@Appleblossom feeling very isolated. I know it’s in my head and people don’t mean to shut me out. It doesn’t even make sense, as you and others have responded, but I am really upset. Take care too x

Re: Let’s talk about SI

HI @Former-Member
Just saw this post - sorry I missed it earlier. Thanks for expressing your feelings about this. I totally understand.
We absolutely wouldn't want you to feel this way and I'm sorry that it has.
The selection process wasn't connected to anyone's activity here in the Forums at all - the aim was to get a mix of demographics and forum use (ie: a mix of new members and a mix of older members). I know that it might make you feel better, but I hope it highlights it was not about you as a person. We value your contribution here on the Forums!

Re: Let’s talk about SI

@Former-Member I understand. I will be stepping back if not leaving myself after a recent event. Do look after yourself as much as you can, I like you and I like reading your posts. You are very brave even if you don't realise it.

@Owlunar @Ant7 thoughts are with you as our lives move on.

Re: Let’s talk about SI

@Former-Member Big hugs. I’ve just read your post and ‘the standard you walk past is the standard you accept’. It makes me cry again. I hope you’re ok.
