Currently the discussion about suicide prevention is often in the media. I think it is something worth talking about here too.
I started struggling with SI and SH since my early teens after an abusive childhood. I won’t go into details re my SI. I continue to struggle to this day, often every day. I sometimes wonder if the thoughts will ever go away or if it’s more managing them for the rest of my life. I actually think I’ve posted about this before... seems a revolving door for me.
Anyway, I have a prevention plan with warning signs, coping strategies, quotes, safe places, phone numbers and a reason to go on - I think I have to work on that one at some point. It’s literally a lifeline for me. Even when I was in hospital crying in my bed, sobbing, i looked at my prevention plan and repeatedly told myself ‘this is a safe place, I put it on this piece of paper when I was well’. It’s weird and sad that the same brain can function so differently at times. Sometimes I beat myself up, that I can’t even do that. Sometimes I think no one cares as I’ve had these thoughts for too long and they’re not valid. I wonder if they are actually not valid. Perhaps it’s just a game my mind plays with me. It makes me tired.
If you identify with the subject, how do you manage?
So glad to see you back here @Former-Member. Look after you, I do hope your path smooths out soon.

@Former-Member Good to see you.
It is such a difficult topic to open up, and often has the consequence of retriggering, but I could not rid myself of my SI over 30 years, no matter what, until I began talking about it.
It has receded for me atm but I never get cocky about it ...
Take care of you
Apple

Hi @Appleblossom and @Ant7
How was your day?
I’m safe. I’ve got not much else to say. Things are very very tough but I do have professional support. I’m trying to make decisions that don’t cause harm.
