Another year done, so what's next?

Another year done, so what's next?

I'm not one for New Year's resolution, but when the year ends I do like to take a moment to pause to reflect over the past year, and to think about what my hopes are for the next year.

For me, this achievement this year was being able to do yoga consistently for one year. I started it, hoping that I would learn a bit about discipline, and one year later, I'm pleased to say that, thanks to an amazing teacher, I've learned about devotion, and practice several times a week.

In 2016, I'm hoping to continue with yoga, and applying it's lesson to everyday life - being calm in the face of adversity, laughing at myself, and being kind to myself and others.

What about you? What are your highlights and achievements of 2015 and their hopes for 2016?

That sounds good @Shaz51
I have a horrible headache tonight but might just be because it's been a busy crazy day!

Hey @Shaz51 - lovely to hear from you. I have some goals around exercise and physical health that I am working on (I started a discussion about that here about Exercise and Goal Setting) have just identified that all the good will in the world can get derailed by emotional, mental or physical limitations on any given day. Trick is to get up again and try on days we can.

Holiday plans are so important (if possible). We usually have one on the drawing board even if a few years away, something to dream about and work towards. I love doing projects around the house now I am basically retired (due to my health) and have made some really lovely things to enjoy sitting in the back garden and also repainted the kitchen 6 months ago, makes me feel very satisfied getting projects done.

Re: Another year done, so what's next?

Thanks @Shaz51 it's cooled off a bit now so I think that's helped. Just so much on this week though! But all leading to 'good' changes. Moving into our new place, appointments for my lil boy with his health care team to make sure everything is in place for him to start school and I have my first work meeting on Friday! Eeek so nervous but looking forward to getting all the firsts out of the way!

I feel for you too Lisajane, my daughter has been experiencing headaches in this weather also. Keep cool tomorrow, be kind to yourself and try not to take on too much in the hot weather.

Re: Another year done, so what's next?

Thanks for the advice @MoonGirl. I go to a writers group twice a month and read out a chapter of my book each time. They give me great feedback and I'm educating them about mental illness. (Two or three of them have approached me privately and have told me that they or someone in their family has a mental illness and I capture the feelings and frustrations of them very accurately). So even without my book being published I am already raising awareness of mental illness which makes me proud and excited.

I have already done a lot of research into how my book will stand out from other literature about mental illness. There are a lot of psychologists, psychiatrists and self-proclaimed "spiritual gurus" books out there but not so many written from those with a lived experience. I feel my book will be able to relate more closely to those with a lived experience. Unlike the gurus and specialists I am not offering a cure, just another perspective.
