Fragile

Fragile

For a while I have tried to find a thread I had started when I joined the forum that could be a "home" thread for me.

Being busy about the forum has been a coping style, where I can acknowledge all my different life experiences that had been silenced. Possibly do some good and prevent things from getting worse. Like the little boy with the finger in the dyke.

Dissociation, Depersonalisation, and Derealization - How to Come Back When You Dissociate

I like her "lets get better at feeling".

At least the internet allows me to learn. I am fortunate to be able to search for current thought in the field of trauma and apply that to myself and my loved ones passed and present.

I encountered these terms while in my 20s but application is another thing again ....

Re: Fragile

Thanks @Appleblossom for your share on Utube I always find your posts interesting.

I learnt a lot from the topic today, having had a diagnosis of PTSD for 30 years.

I find I am still in the freeze zone and would do anything to escape. I guess the idea is to focus on something that feels safe and branch on ie. With the chronic pain picture, finding something that hurts less and move forward.

Thanks again 💜💕💜

Hey @Dimity Hugs ...

I first read about dissociation 40 years ago in very intellectual terms at undergrad, the actual appplications of it in my life, seem to be taking a life time to figure out, but essentially it is an adaptive process to threat. These days lots of people are familiar with the term ...

@Former-Member

Glad you liked video. It is great to have access to the net, tho I do have to limit it. For a few years I needed to be on it a lot, but these days I am opting for more balance and offline activities. Got zoom work tonight tho.

Re: Fragile

@Appleblossom a very long time ago a psychiatrist made a very negative remark to me about dissociation and I dismissed it thereafter. But recently I've read more on cptsd, the freeze response, shutting down and dissociation and find it all deeply resonates with my experience. I'm so glad you've weathered it all and are emerging to more light and happiness in your interactions...

@Dimity

I would not have been interested in her channel if she did not unpack the concept well according to modern neuroscience understandings ... so I guessed it might be a bit cutting edge.

This year, I had a very derogative comment from a medicolegal practitioner about dissociation in a very time compacted interview and assessment. (Though highly remunerated ... his way). He is being blacklisted by my lawyers and I hope one day I will put in a complaint.

Anyway, when her videos started coming up in my feed, I looked at them.. There are some advantages to search engines and algorithms ... I guess....weary sigh.

Yes ... about the "weathered" I can add that to my self descriptive phrases ... in good jest ... this old grey mare has weathered quite a few storms ...

I have just had some muck ups ... re complicated computers ... and been fixing them ... one the other admitted fault, and then one was my fault. Neither seriously life threatening, but important nevertheless.

Plus i got a scam call today about my bank being charged for online shopping ... but he hung ... up maybe I seemed too alert for him ... lol ... win some lose some.

Bloomin' komputa!

Hope your day was something good ...

Re: Fragile

Hmm the "professional" overstepped @Appleblossom . Hope you sustained no damage. It's good you had the nous to resolve the computer problems. I frequently get scam emails and was a bit perturbed when I got a missed call from the Congo.

Today I got a Covid booster but was refused a flu shot the same day. I've decided to take the plunge and continue with my psychologist in the gap between mental health care plans... I guess I'm privileged to have private health insurance. I feel I've been processing a bit of stuff lately and would like to follow it through, so I can hopefully start functioning better. Ancient as I am, it's not easy.
