Fragile

Fragile

For a while I have tried to find a thread I had started when I joined the forum that could be a "home" thread for me.

Being busy about the forum has been a coping style, where I can acknowledge all my different life experiences that had been silenced. Possibly do some good and prevent things from getting worse. Like the little boy with the finger in the dyke.

Re: Fragile

Hi @Appleblossom sorry to hear of your abusive psychologist. You definitely are entitled to exercise choice and control over who you see or if you see a psychologist at all. It's for different reasons but I am faced with the same choice at this time. Does the benefit outweigh the risk seems to be the big question. The only one I've found so far that is trauma informed and EMDR experienced charges $50 a week more than the one I've had so that's another reason to reconsider.

Sounds like you have a good plan for self-maintenance going forward.

Take care xx

Re: Fragile

Hi @Appleblossom

It sounds as if it's time for you to move on - I have read the rest of the thread until now and "immature" - and "without children" therapists might not be useful - certainly kids and time does make us grow - and you do not need that kind of comment comments

Like - "indulging your pain" and "while you lie there" - it sounds a bit abrasive to me - I do think about my pain - but indulge it - no - and I have known you for years and read your thoughts and you don't seem to me to be someone who indulges anything - and when I am on my back reflecting I do my best thinking - I think you do the same from what I read - and yes

Time to move on - as we get older we have less time to waste on things that do not suit us - our boundaries can be set with our short-term goals made aware with the passage of time

I wish you the best with it Apple and hope you find someone helpful - and of course

You read and you have the forum - we will always be here

Re: Fragile

Hi @Appleblossom ... just stopping by to thank you for your supportive posts to me over the past week. I'm sorry I havent been more prompt to respond to some of those posts. Thanks for including me in your post yesterday however, its always good to hear from you how things are going for you.

I say "well done" to you for making the decision to leave when a therapist is not working for you. Of course you are free to leave and find someone who will be a better fit for you. They are after all, essentially employed by you ... so you have every right to hire and fire. Clearly she either had no idea how best to help you, or has not listened to you as to what your needs and expectations are. I hope you can find a worthy replacement very soon. I know good therapists can be difficult to get to see, often with a longish waiting time. But perhaps the wait could be worth it in the end.

Good for you for not remaining in a bad situation through succumbing to decision paralysis. Make the decision which is right for you, and act on it. Go you! I'm impressed.

Thank you ALL

@Former-MemberI think I am taking a while to come to realise I can have choice and control. In the past there was so much that I had no control over, so simply had to endure. Learning what to do with it ... is new.

@Maggie

@eth

@OwlunarThanks. It did not feel relevant to me, but I do not have to take it or fix it. Learning that moving on, by my own choice, is fine.

You are all much appreciated.

Re: Fragile

Hi @Appleblossom

You are right - we don't have to endure - take - or fix - the status quo - we can change things to suit ourselves - we have moved on from the old "like it or lump it" regime of our childhood - thank God for that

Learning makes things - all new - and it's wonderful

I changed my pain specialist appointment - I didn't feel okay about spending actually an hour with two different taxi drivers getting to and coming home from the specialist - and I have a new appointment some months away - that's true -

I can organise an MRI through my GP - and I think I will be happier when I know what is happening there - and anyway - I never like going out when the forecast is for bad weather - though I do have an appointment with my GP and and on-line interview with my psychologist - I made incredible choices about my pain management programme last year and it's working out for me

All the best with your new ventures Apple

Re: Fragile

Choice, comes from a new found sense of agency.
The agency we build along our journey comes with a budding sense of kindness and friendship to our self. I’m soo glad to see you talking about the choices you have in life!!!! To everyone here. Keep on. It’s really (insert curse word) hard. It really is energy and effort that some days there is little of. Lots of love to you
