I want to know and bit worried about how i will survive, financially, is there places where i can work, get paid and live? If anyone knows pl share and guide. I am bit worried about future having limited financial resources. Do society/govt assist and really care about people with severe depression ?

@Gthan Hi Gthan I am going to tag @eth into this conversation as she has been applying for package through the NDIS which provide services for people with mi. It will be worthwhile talk with her I think. There of course is Centrelink where you can apply for a Disability Pension and the employment agencies which can help re getting back to work when you are ready.

I hope that helps a bit to relieve your anxiety. You are not alone and Forumland is full of caring individuals who are more than willing to help when and where they can. gp 🙂

Re: worries

Hi there @Gthan, to tag someone you need to put the @ symbol before the name and with no spaces type the name. I see @eth has been tagged already, so hopefully you'll get some great info about applying for an NDIS package. I myself am in the process of applying for a package, but am not really holding out much hope. We shall see I suppose.

Re: worries

@Gthan Hi Gthan eth has a thread here where she talks about her NDIS journey you can also look up the NDIS online to find more information. They have offices in most places. You can start getting organized by getting all your documentation together to fill out the forms and also dont forget Centrelink for a Disability Pension etc.

I know it is all overwhelming at first but those here in the know like eth and Queenie should be able to give you the heads up.

🙂

I am stuck between choice to live here or there......and for me its like checkmate position. Hence having running thoughts comparing life here and there. I want to live here but not sure how i will be able to survive with this mental poisition. I donot know where to take treatment in India or Australia for my server depression with sucidal thoughts, with constatnt running thoughts...n ..check mating.... It has been four weeks since doctor increased dosage of antidepressent. put 100mg .... not effective yet.....

Do people experience the same ? Do people survive with such mental health ? whats opinion to take treatment here or in India?

Re: worries

Hi @Gthan. The first step would be to go to Centrelink and be put on the Newstart Allowance. This is for those looking for work. You may not be eligible for the Disability Pension - as your mental illness may be seen as being 'temporary'. That is the case with me.
Is it the gp doctor who has prescribed the anti depressant? If so, ask the gp to refer you to a psychiatrist - to get a proper diagnosis and check the medication is right for you. You can tell the doctor that you need a psychiatrist who bulk bills. So you won't need to pay - but just show your medicare card.
Or you could ask your doctor to refer you to the local Community Mental Health Service in your area. This is a free service where you can see a psychiatrist and a psych nurse.
Over time, with the medication working and maybe some 'talk therapy' with a psychologist - hopefully you will start feeling a bit more like your old self and you'll be able to look for work again.
Some people may only get one episode of depression in their life time. And after a short time in therapy and taking medications, they no longer have depression. Others have reoccurring episodes.
Maybe it would be good to take your wife with you to see your doctor, so then you will both know how to manage your MI.

Re: worries

Hello and welcome to the forums @Gthan. Thanks for the tags @utopia @Bunniekins @Queenie

Utopia's advice is the best place to start I think Gthan. Asking your GP doctor to refer you for psychologist and psychiatrist. For the psychologist, if your GP does a Mental Health Care Plan for you it is valid for 12 months and entitles you to 10 psychology appointments, with a medicare refund of $125.50 for each session. A lot of psychologists won't charge you a 'gap' fee on top of that. Assuming you have a medicare card. For psychiatrist it is hard to find one who bulk bills except through the Public Health System - your GP should be aware of the options there. Private ones can be very expensive with only about 50% rebate from medicare. If you are going to apply for a Disability Pension through Centrelink you will need reports from these people to show how bad things can be for you. Same goes if you decide to apply for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan and package of funding. I have a thread on here called 'Anyone Started with the NDIS?' (type it on your search bar at the top of the page for a link to it (maybe someone hear knows how to post a link in this thread for me). There is a lot of information about the process of applying for NDIS on there, but I give you a content warning as my experience so far is difficult. For this you have to prove that your disability is life-long and significant - and they don't recognise many cases of 'psychosocial' (mental health) conditions.

Hoping all this information is clear for you. Don't hesitate to ask me more questions but I will only see them if you type '@eth' in the post. I understand how overwhelming the whole matter is for you and hope to help. But do understand that in these forums we are all people with varying mental health issues helping each other with suggestions. We are not therapists.

@Former-Member Can you help @Gthan with instructions on tagging and finding other threads?

Re: worries

Hi @Queenie do you have a thread about your NDIS journey?

@Gthan it's many years since I applied fot the disability pension through Centrelink and I'm pretty sure the procedure has changed since then. Your GP Dr should also know about the process for this and support you through the process.
