Living with Ourselves

Living with Ourselves

hello @eudemonism @eth @outlander @Bunniekins @Mazarita @Silenus @NameUnknown @Grasshopper3 @patientpatient @soul @Former-Member @Determined @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Friendconnect @Teej @utopia @Queenie @Appleblossom @Zam @perseverer @Janna @Owlunar @Former-Member @Former-Member

First of all I wanted to let you know that I have conversed with all of you at some stage on both sides of the forum..

It was my intention to close two of my threads and change my name in the kindest way for all of you...

I commenced this process on the 12th March and today is the first day that I have access to actually post or respond to anyone....I was in the last couple of days able to register a new name and like some posts...

I am so sorry that my profile ended so abruptly that was definitely not my intention....

In fact if I had done it my way.. instead of thinking would be better to be guided through the process....I would have just written on one of my threads my reason for closing my account tagging you all in....then requested account to be closed and username put to bed so to speak

I have chosen to take this path in order to protect my family's sense of safety .. privacy...health..

Please let me reassure you that this has nothing to do with any members on here...

I have tagged each and everyone of you because you have given me support and invited me into a little of your worlds...priceless experiences...I have felt heard and valued on here....Thank you all so much..

Moving forward ...this is who I am now and hope to be able to converse on the forum living in the now not the past...therefore no mention of my previous username necessary...

If you do not know who I am...that is fine also...perhaps all of the above is not relevant for you..

take care

Re: Living with Ourselves

Hi @Sophia1 @Maggie @Exoplanet

I'm a deep thinker too, always have been. My psychologist said I think too much.

Apparently I dissociate a lot (daily), due to childhood trauma (spanning decades).

Dissociation is a survival response - often unhelpful as an adult, because it can make it hard for me to "engage with people" (or opportunities).

Dissociation also keeps my trauma memories suppressed (out of awareness) - which I don't want, because I don't remember most of my life.

I'm looking forward to recovering (& remembering) my memories - no matter how unpleasant.

Because that will help me to "integrate myself" (feel more whole) - & I'm sure there are happy memories in there (they're not all scary ones).

Hello @Adge @Maggie @eudemonism

Dissociation is a tricky condition...experienced differently by each human being..

A natural response ....a safety mode..

I am not sure that it is possible to recall all of our memories..

We can look at photographs and feelings, thoughts can emerge.

Sometimes the more we try to recall certain periods of our lives the more we confuse the little that we do remember..especially if provoked by looking at photographs or listening to tales told by others..

Living in the now is far more comforting for us...noticing life around us in particular nature is a healthy way of keeping dissociation at bay.

We all have our own coping methods..

leaving this here for you all @Former-Member @outlander @Exoplanet

Re: Living with Ourselves

@Sophia1 i will think of solutions is the bit i like. Instead of being overwhelmed and worn down by all the tedious problems . Heading off to see doctor and get depot shortly. Another 28 day cycle begins. Their opinion and plan of action is sometimes/usually not what i want .

Re: Living with Ourselves

how did you go at the doctor @eudemonism

Re: Living with Ourselves

Oh well @Shaz51 i had a big long vent about everything that's going wrong and all my problems. But basically it was a case of refer me to counsellor and administer my medication . I try to be polite tactical and diplomatic about approaching doctors but it never works out how I plan. They just administer meds give referal and send me on my way .

Re: Living with Ourselves

Hi @eudemonism

it sure sounds like you feel disheartened about doctors at the moment after what you have experienced. It is sad to hear that it has never working out for you. But I am sure there are doctors out there who are able to do much more than administer and refer. I encourage you to keep trying to find one that meets your needs.

warmest regards
