Re: catching up

Karen, it sounds like your mother is taking advantage of you physically, emotionally and financially, she is a text book abuser.

Karen you are not weak or pathetic, you are coping the way you know how, you are scared for yourself and your girls safety, it only takes 1 step Karen, i will always support you no matter what choice you make, i am your friend and always will be, if you choose to go i will support you, if you chose to stay i will continue to support you, you have to be ready to leave the abuse Karen, only you can make that vital step.

please be kind to yourself, and be gentle with the girls. can you take the girls and go out for some dinner? some time just you and the girls may be what you all need.

Re: catching up

Im scared if I do she will try and take the girls away
and use my ptsd ,anxiety, and depression as well as I made an attempt on my life and seven trips to the mental health unit in 12 months as reasons.
she uses it against me all the time.

Re: catching up

Karen i think it is imperitive to seek help from police, you need to get these events on legal record now, so if it ever gets to the stage of custody you have a record of the abuse.

i wish i could be more help Karen, i am scared for your safety, scared for your situation.

Re: catching up

Hi @hiddenite,

I’m so sorry to hear about what’s going on at the moment. This situation with your mother sounds really difficult. @Jacques is doing such a great job of supporting you at the moment and has made some really good suggestions for things you can do to get help. If you are feeling scared and alone, there are always services you can call for help. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need to.

As @Jacques mentioned, 1800 RESPECT (737 732) is a great service and are available 24/7 to speak with you and provide with support and advice on your situation. Remember that not all abuse comes in the form of physical violence; verbal and emotional abuse can be just as damaging. You can also contact the police if you are feeling unsafe. They may be able to investigate the matter and also provide you with some advice on ways you can protect yourself from your mother’s behaviour.

Another service is the National Disability Abuse and Neglect Hotline (1800 880 052). Living with a mental illness is a disability that can leave people open to abuse and neglect. The National Disability Abuse and Neglect Hotline can provide you with a way to report this formally and have the situation investigated.

We hope you can find the strength to get the help you need.

All the best,

supernova.

Re: catching up

Karen i understand, it is very difficult, i so wish you could get a small apartment in a motel for the interum while you wait for your house to be finished.

Would it be possible to finish a room in your house and a bathroom quickly so you can at least move in. I know when i first moved into my place, the house was destroyed, mum, dad and i live in 1 room for a month, and cooked on a BBQ, it is tough, but your health and your girls health are so much more important.

Do the girls like camping? maybe you can take the girls camping? give you some time alone with them, some happy time.

Karen you do not deserve to be treated like this, you have been handed some really tough cards in life, i can't believe the luck you have, but you are not a horrible person, people/family are taking advantage of you because they know they can get away with it.

I am so disappointed with all your family, can you speak to your brother or sister about this? maybe move in with them for a while?
