My special place

My special place

Well yesterday certainly threw everything off track. But thanks to some very thoughtful and kind people I was able to get threw it and continue.

I cannot say a lot about what happened as I am sure you all understand but need this support in place.

Things WILL be ok, just a lot to work out.

Psych visit yesterday sorted out some of the things and more things will be happening early next week.

I am sorry if I put anyone through any despair, but unfortunately what happened yesterday morning had to be done.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Re: My special place

Yeah absolutely @Snowie which isn't your fault, it's an accessibility issue! Folks should be able to continue accessing healthcare even if they live rural.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to make a portable ECT machine 🤔 Feels like there'd be a market there for sure! Plus being in a safe, familiar space would potentially make it even more effective, surely! Ach we can dream.

Totally legit, showers are one of those things where like... it can be just enough effort to be discouraging, despite knowing the benefits. I think I've seen a meme that summed it up perfectly -

Me before I shower: Ugh I hate the Wet Place it is the worst, why must I do this

Me in the shower: Ahh, I see now, the Wet Place is best, it is the Dry Place that is the enemy!

Like the process of getting undressed sucks, the process of getting out sucks, but when I'm in there, it's bliss 😂 Good on you for gettin it done!!

My day has been ok so far, pretty uneventful to be honest! Probably just go to the shops for cat food later. Yaaaaay.

@creative_writer aww darlin, that's so rough. It can be oh so demoralising when we get hit with those intense lows, or feel the hollowness of apathy building. First step is recognising it though, so good on you for that. Do you think it would be helpful to seek out some extra external support at the moment? I know it's not always easy to find, but perhaps even looking for some psych or counselling offered through a university? It's usually cheap/free.

Re: My special place

A portable ect machine sounds wonderful @Jynx I could imagine how much the doctor and anesthetist would cost and then the nurse for afterwards!! 🤦‍♀️

The nurses in there know me by name now. It's nice on one hand but on the other, hmmm been there too many times.

I love being in the shower too, and then the warm pj's afterwards are bliss!! I also really hate the getting out and getting dried.

Uneventful days are sometimes the best type of days. No drama involved!!

@creative_writer already got my pj's on! Sitting with you too hon 💗💗

Re: My special place

Haha precisely @Snowie you get it! Slow days are at times so few n far between!

Mmmm now I'm already picturing getting all snugged up and rugged up in my pjs later. Though my oodie I'm wearing right now is its own delightful type of snug!

Totally get you on the double-edged sword of being known by the nursing staff! I also picture that for them too it is good when you come around - not good cos of the reasons you're there but good cos they get to chat to you! We all have those folks who brighten our day, and I can so easily picture you being that person 😊

Re: My special place

@Jynx I actually did look at the counselling service offered by uni. I would have to ask them if they have the option of Telehealth since I live far away, I don’t go to uni everyday, so it would be good if it were an option.

@Snowie I’m in my Trackies and hoodie too. I’ll probably be going to bed early to. Just need to get through the emotions till then

Re: My special place

I've got my oodie on too @Jynx One part of winter I love, getting all snuggled up!

I too know some of the nurses by name. So sad on one level. I often think if they say 'not her again' or 'must be something really wrong with her' in their head.

I guess one advantage of knowing them is at least I feel more comfortable with them and feel it is easier to open up to them.

@creative_writer sometimes those emotions can be really hard to deal with, especially if they pile up on top of each other.

Re: My special place

@creative_writer oh good point, and fingers crossed they've got something set up! Glad to hear you're already on it, taking those steps. If they don't have telehealth, could you ask them to try to ensure your appts only fall on days you're gonna be on campus anyway?

@Snowie totally, the snuggling is the bomb! It's also soup and hot choccie weather, my fav! Already made a thai butternut pumpkin soup recently, maybe next one should be a minestrone or something... something chunky hahaha.

Nahhh you'd hardly be the most frequent flyer in there, and compared to some of the stories I've heard from my brother (who works as a MH nurse), I imagine you're a dream.

Re: My special place

ohhh I love thai food @Jynx and pumpkin. That soup would taste amazing.

I'm normally a patient who will just stay quiet and rarely ask any questions and just go with the flow. Sometimes I think I am too placid. That I should stand up for myself. Even when I am in hospital I hate going up to the nurses station and asking for something, I am worried I will be labelled as annoying.

But I guess that's what happens with me in real life too. I rarely speak up for myself. I will just agree with others even if I don't agree with them. Even with my supports, there are some things I wish I could say but hold back on. This is defiantly a weakness of mine.

Re: My special place

@Snowie I don’t know about you. I always find comfort in wrapping myself up in warm clothing and a blanket when I’m feeling low. It is true they can build up. Some of us have a tendency to bottle emotions up, I know I do.

@Jynx the teaching period will come to an end this week, I only have final assignments now. I would have to go to uni, I mean I could to study. The problem lies when placement starts, won’t always have that flexibility. I’m still wrapping my head around how I’m going to see my current supports. I don’t like Telehealth appointments while on placement. Walls have ears. My pdoc at least does 5pm appointments. I’ll see what I’ll do with my psych, I’m trying to get an appointment in before placement. The August one will ideally be after placement finishes. That leaves June and July. If I really need to I guess I could always ask my psych if she can do Saturday
