Something’s not right

My special place

My special place

Well yesterday certainly threw everything off track. But thanks to some very thoughtful and kind people I was able to get threw it and continue.

I cannot say a lot about what happened as I am sure you all understand but need this support in place.

Things WILL be ok, just a lot to work out.

Psych visit yesterday sorted out some of the things and more things will be happening early next week.

I am sorry if I put anyone through any despair, but unfortunately what happened yesterday morning had to be done.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Re: My special place

Has something helped before @Snowie ?

Mindfulness exercises that connect you to your environment (5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch / feel .....) ?

Holding a block of ice in your hand till it’s melted, swapping from hand to hand ?

Making a cup of tea, cupping it in your hands and sitting in the sunshine ...... listening for birdsong ?

Something to take you out of your head ...... has that worked for you before ?

Re: My special place

@Faith-and-Hope I am using my safety plan, doing mindfullness, trying to get out of my head.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have felt it for a few days, yet tried to ignore it. Ignoring it isn't helping anymore. I know what happened on the last downward spiral, I don't want that again.

Re: My special place

Hey @Snowie

Sorry to hear things are feeling shaky for you at the moment. You've done really well to notice the early warning signs - the sooner we notice things, the more proactive we can be with preventing that downward spiral.

It's great to hear you've been using your safety plan and trying out your coping skills (even if sometimes it feels like they're not completely helpful). You might not notice it right away, but all of those things are actually a step towards preventing that downward sprial. Reaching out, connecting with others, and chatting with others on the forums is so important too.

It might be worth checking in with your psych about how you're feeling too. Or maybe at your next appointment, you could talk with them and come up with a bit of plan together to support you moving forward.

Look after yourself @Snowie I hope taking a bit of time out this arvo is helpful 😊

Re: My special place

Local mh teams are just a heap of rouble sometimes. It's probably not that they can't help you but they won't as you are being treated privately and the public and private don't talk to each other, so it makes your care potentially misjointed and difficult because no one knows what each other is doing @Snowie

Re: My special place

Hi @Snowie,

i know how impossible it feels when you can feel that downward spiral. I haven’t any answers for you as I am still learning too. I think that perhaps it helps not to focus on it. This morning you helped turn me around because I almost just needed that acknowledgment that it happens and no matter when the last time was it will likely happen again. When I’m in the centre of it it seems to consume me. I can’t see beyond that I’m going down. People will tell me it will pass but it doesn’t feel that way at all. I’m in the vortex trying to get out but the more I fight it the more I go under too. Maybe it’s about acceptance that we are here using our safety plans AGAIN, sometimes it just feels like all I do is distract. I guess all we can do is accept that this crappy thing is happening again and we have to go with it or we’ll be consumed by it. Feel free to throw this back at me anytime. I feel like I’m clutching at straws a bit but wanted to acknowledge how you are feeling and share some thoughts. I have been feeling a bit like you over the last week too. I think fearing we’ll go under makes it more likely we will, but I’m not sure how to stop it. I think it’s just likely to be about finding things that can keep you in the present.

Thinking of you 💜🤗

Re: My special place

@Snowie I'm still right beside you hun. Offering gentle hugs if you need those too. And I've got a new box of tissues so plenty of those available.

I think @Teej has explained really well. Sometimes we have to throw everything we have at it, and do again and again even though we have done a hundred times or more before.

I now see SH and SA for what it is; it's a replacement of pain or time. I can't handle being in hospital yet one more time, or causing physical pain to replace emotional. Nether SH or SA achieve anything but more pain, more distress.

So instead I focus on giving myself the best possible care I can. Sometimes it's a struggle still to reach out. And if I can't do that, then bed is where I'll stay, with books or movies. And when that terrible anguish passes, as it often does, I will resurface. Or I will accept a spiral is coming and not fight it. I told my pdoc in my session last week of my fear of falling further, so she's increasing my AD. I'm glad she listened.
