Depression Dementia Dad

Depression Dementia Dad

Is Dementia Mental Illness? It's a disease of the mind so i'm hoping i still belong here. If not for that - today at the DR he was asked if he gets depression - dad answered "yes I do get depressed" It's hard to read with dad's early vascular dementia.

Around Christmas i moved in with my parents as mum was unable to manage hersef let alone continue as dad's carer. She was end stage cancer and died in hospital palliative care only 19 days after i arrived 😞 I was shocked how sick she became in the 2months since my last three week trip.. My goodness - what a fighter she was. My two younger brothers were dropping in a couple of times a day & helped with transport, bills & shopping - but could not stay in the house.longer than 30min - becoming restless... (probably the MI-Sz / drug related) and they were wearing thin. getting angry.. Mum was so difficult / hurtful during my last stay to help, i was reluctant to come again unless she asked me to. It was hard for her but necessary. The first attempt to drive the 1200km i ran off the road & badly crashed my car - a 'Write Off' Sore bones & shellshot - I had to rest a few days before flew down.

I hit the floor running - household duties, neals & loads of patient reassurance for mum. Even giving her a bell. Wasnt easy looking them both, clearly dad had been neglected for sone time.

I was still in the bad books for reporting him as a medically 'unfit' driver during my last stay. They fought it and gad x2 doctors confer ( why not done before is beyond me).

So here i am, feeling alone with 'toxic family' threatened by my presence, the loss of my mum, a dad in grief, with early vascular dementia, diabetes, heart disease, spinal injury - poor mobility, bad incontinence. Its full on some days. Not just the cleaning up but all the medical appointments. Especially since mum had understandablly got behind on things like optometrist, pidiatrist... even the GP...

Just looking for support as feeling somewhat shattered after only x5 weeks. Big day today.

Re: Depression Dementia Dad

Being processed Darcy, decision expected by 23/03 but i couldnt upload the ID criteria for part one (dads birth certificate), so expect they'll delay further. I must help dad apply for another birth certidicate. My sister isnt talking again so i have no way of knowing if dads papers are amongst the stuff she took out of the house the day after mum died.

I'm disgusted my siblings are more interested in what they can take from here than spending time with dad.

Have i mentioned the first time Bro2 took dad out - he conned dad into letting him take the house keys, to copy them - even though i had previously said not to. Bro2 boadted later by tx that he'd made x3 copies but wouldnt tell me who for. So, yes i had the locks changed & didnt anyone (I'm always with dad when he goes out), but today it backfired. Bro3 turned up late, with lunch in hand for dad saying he'll just have lunch here with dad now, so i left thinking the keu wasn't gonna be an issue. But while i was gone - bro3 changed his mind again & took dad out for coffee & they got locked out. Bro3 sent several horrible tx messages to me, which put a dampener on a lovely few hours when turning ph back on after the movie cinema, with my cuz (first time out in ages). Oh dear, it worried me. It seems bro3 broke in through the bathroom window anyway, dad was sitting comfortably in his couch alone when i got back. Said Bro3 cursed me a lot over the door.

It's like I'm not allowed to go out.

Bro3 texts indicate he'd been in discussion with my estranged toxic sister - I'm suspicious she is behind it & wants access to the house to continue going through things at will, regaedless of dad's feelings. I've told her / them, they're's no rush to clear out the house. Dad doesn't want to go into a Nursing Home yet & i'm happy to be here. He's in his last life season, has chronic kidney & heart disease... I don't get why they're not pleased i'm looking after him.

My beautiful time out with my cousin has been tainted.

TONIGHT - 2030hrs - two uniformed police came to the house to speak to me over Elder Abuse issues raised because dad didn't have the key to get back into the house today 😞 They spoke with dad too (dad is happy with me being here... It was nice to here dad say that to the police, and he even told them i "do more for him than ANYONE else ever does" Phew! He could have cracked one of his mean jokes or got the words mixed up...

Unfortunately for Bro3 i had to bring up the Mental Health thing, and my concern over how much Bro3 was upset to ring them & if he was likely to come over & v-abuse me tonight - because he can get abusive... The cops didn't know, hadnt talked with him themselves... They asked dad if bro3 gets abusive... and dad told them "yes, he can get quite abusive"

Thank goodness dad's still lucid enough to converse accurately with the brothers, i just feel so alone in all this without dad's witness. He's memory & cognitive decline makes it so hard, but he was clear tonight, thank goodness.

I was sueprised tonight when the policeman asked dad if i lock him in the house "can you get out oftthe househif youeneed to Mr...?" OMG - this caught me off guard - why would they even think that? What's my family saying? OMG! And what happens with the dementia if dad does start wondering & i have to lock the front door?

I think the police started to get the picture with my family.

WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS TOO ME?!? Sounds like they're drumming up some kinda Elder Abuse claims now. But why? Why do they want me out of the house? Nobody else is available to come stay with dad & care for him. And why is the keys to the house so important to them when they've been visiting whenever they want. Dad needs someone here, i have medical backup on that. What do they want! Dad was so scared when mum died recently, scaredIwhat was'gonba happen to him. I'm buffering that, and proud to, but with no support or compensation, just because i care, and he's my dad.

What's wrong with my siblings?

Or is it me?

Yes dad should have a key to his house even though he never has to use it himself + but he doesn't have to let everyone have a copy of the same key. I have to sleep here! And am responsible for his stuff. And i have v-abusive brothers, that do drugs & always broke & have Sz CTO injections, everyone's scared of them & mother's former MI outbursts (God rest her soul).

Why can't we all just gwt along

I'm upset tonight

Anybody around: @Former-Member, @Faith-and-Hope, @Shaz51, @Former-Member, @Appleblossom, @Owlunar, @soul,

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG! DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

WANNA GO HOME BUT CAN'T ABANDON DAD JUST YET. POOR DAD.

Re: Depression Dementia Dad

Hardly slept all night, it's not fair! Tomorrow / today is my day off 😞 Dad goes to his Veterans Day Centre - but i'll be too stressed out to enjoy it now. The relief from the Guardianship Battle didn't last long. I like careing for dad, i don't like what my siblings are doing. Trying to 'run me out' it seems. Its evil.

Or maybe i am 'mad'

Its still dark but may as well give up & grab a cup of tea. Have upset tummy a bit too 😞

Don't know what to do... Taking so much energy to hold in the Fight / Flight Adrenalin - i need help!

Psychologist gave me a cancellation for this arvo, I'm a bit nervous about leaving dad alone for the hour now though 😞

Re: Depression Dementia Dad

Your situation sucks @Former-Member. I know a thing or two about what you are going through.
You can’t choose your family. Sounds like you lucked out.
Glad that your Dad stood up for you.

Talking to you @Former-Member. Glad you have now tagged me. Seems like this thread was started when I was in the thick of all my medical stuff but now have the energy to help you.

Re: Depression Dementia Dad

My dog heard a cat outside screeching and went ballistic so I had to quieten her down.

Seems like you are all wired up over the rotten siblings. So sorry that you have to deal with all this crap. You are a very good daughter and I’m sure your Dad appreciates you. When he passes, you can be assured that you did the best for him. That gives peace of mind and helps negate all the bad stuff that you are going through now. Don’t let the haters get you down. They have their own agenda - looking after their own needs at the detriment of your father.

Re: Depression Dementia Dad

When i was out yesterday and got that abusice tx from bro3 - i tried to ring the homeline to see if dad was ok but the phone kept going to a record saying "your call can not be taken at the moment" Well, i'm not very tech savvy but thought this was strange, worried the phone wasn't working, but people rang through the day & das's been answering ok...
Just now i spent time tryi g to figure it out, why my calls don't even ring the phone - sure enough - my numbee has been BLOCKED on the landline handset.
WHO WOULD DO THAT?
AND WHY?
Dad can't do it & why would he?
It took me 20min to figure out how to unblock myself grr
Now i have to wadte a day off studying the manual to see if theres a security i can put on the handset to stop 'ooen house' passers by (visiting dad) doing this crap.
And they wonder why i changed the locks 😞
I'm sorry this is hard to read
Is it wrong for me to be disturbed?
I don't even know who to blame / confront or report
Its emotiinal abuse
I have no recourse & its stressing me
Is there nothing i can do?
Before mum died she told me to 'watch' dad as he's told her he wants to end his life brcause he feels so useless now 😞 it worries me that if dad gets too exposed to the conflict... you know what I'm saying... I don't want that on my watch. It's taking a
lot of
energy to joldin my frustration, especially since one has already acused me of not letting her see her father one day when we asked her not to come & go through stuff...

I could just disappear - poor dad 😞

@Former-Member, My 54yo Bro3 has Paranoid Sz, CTO, verbally aggressive, emotional, and grieving mum (x6 wks), he was very close to mum he's "best friend" he called her. How likely is he to get physically violent?

I'm not sure how much more i can take of this.

Re: Depression Dementia Dad

Sorry i dropped out @soul, not use to ppl chatting 'real time' & had to get dad a good breakfast & off for his early taxi to Veteran's Day Centre. Now just having a lay down, might nod off. Have aunt & uncle coming for lunch today. Was gonna bag up mum's wardrobe but not uo to that now, neither is my aunt.
