I'm starting this discussion as a place where we can set our goals daily, help motivate each other to do them and then check in with how we went. It's a place to celebrate when we achieve them or just sit with each other if we didnt and are feeling down about it. Hopefully with encouragement and support from each other we'll tick lots of boxes for our daily goals and feel good about it. Please join in. 😊

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in
Found an art supply shop next door to the music shop @Teej ..... so now I know where to go for that stuff, but I was feeling really low this afternoon, so couldn’t really feel the joy in the moment. Had a good cry, so I should probably add that to the list of achievements cos I’m feeling steadier on my feet again now.
Ticking boxes does seem to help on a rough day .....

@Teej@Bunniekins@Appleblossom@Faith-and-Hope@Shaz51 Hope your day gets off to a good start and continues that way.
One of my goals is to get a balance with housework. It stresses me out. It never ends. I don't want it to be the main thing in my weekends. How to do this?

@frog@Teej@Appleblossom@Shaz51@Faith-and-Hope morning to everyone 🙂
Dear froggy I know my house is like a mad womans breakfast at times..... ummm .... can you clean up one room completely over a weekend and then the following weekend do another room. I know it will be hard to see the other rooms not looking as clean but that is how my mothers cleaner used to do her unit and she was very happy with that. 🙂

Hi @frog
just wondering if you could get the kids to help with some of it, they may already to so but just thought I’d check. Sometimes just help with little things might help a bit. I gather you do it all on your own. I happen to think your wonderwoman for that 💜🤗

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in
Thanks @Teej. I don't think the kids understand how much it means to me. They sometimes do a bit but nowhere near their fair share. Sometimes I want to go on strike but the mess would get to me. I do find that external order makes a positive difference to me particularly when internal chaos reigns. Sometimes I refuse to cook dinner when they are particularly indifferent to my requests.

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in
I don’t mean to confuse you @frog, but my approach to housekeeping is really laid back. I had three children under 2yo at one stage, one of them very sick and hispitalised frequently, and my husband working such long hours the neighbours didn’t realise I was married. My MIL was highly controlling, critical and sabotaging ......
So ......
Accept that housework is like eating ....,, it’s something that you perpetually do ..... it just carries on, but for me, it belongs in the background, not front and centre.
I trained myself to fold everything before I put it down cos anything that is folded automatically looks neater ...... kudos if you can get the kids to do the same.
I trained myself I pile things neatly cos neat piles automatically look, well, neater ...... kudos again if you can get the kids to do the same.
I trained myself to keep moving things from where they had been put down to the room they belong in as I was going that way ..... eg pick up dirty tea towels as I was headed to the laundry to hang washing anyway, and put them into the machine and start it straight after taking out the load to hang.
Fold clothes into the basket from the line to save double handling ......leaving the items for ironing to s cons last ......take the folded washing inside with the ironing items draped loosely over the top, turn the iron on and iron the half dozen items on the spot and hang them on one of those handy-dandy over-the-door hanger holders ...... and you will never have an ironing pile ...... then return to the line and match up all the socks that you have left till last cos they are easy to pair when they are all hanging up in front of you .......
I take the folded washing in it’s basket to the kitchen and put everybody’s washing on the chair that they sit in at the table, and ask them to take it from there once a day and put it away.
I spray out the shower stall ahead of my shower and keep a wash-cloth for sloshing around in there as I wash myself. The shower stays clean. Same, I keep a wash cloth under the bathroom sink and wipe over the bench whenever I see it’s dirty ...... wipe the fogged up mirror with your damp shower towel or bathroom hand towel - it comes up really clean and cos it’s done all the time, the mirror stays clean and so does the towel.
