Re: rough time

Going back from yesterdays chat @Sans911 (your welcome too @Snowie)

the little goals I had were to focus on the basics so was kinda hard on myself as I wanted to make sure I was getting the basics done each day but after reading what you wrote I can see that not everyday I wont be able to reach them all but really want to meet the basic needs.

Diet- I am pretty much eating a bland diet atm but I just feel so unwell in the stomach that even the smells atm make me want to hurl, even the thought of it. Ill go to the fridge to get a piece of fruit or to the cupboards to get something like the biscuits and it stays down when I eat something but I cant seem to manage it. Ill have a look at the chemist so at least the nutrition is still there as I can manage drinks in smaller amounts.

I had a think about the sleep routine and im going to try what you suggested and keep doing it and log off the forums by a certain time like 1030/11 but will be strict about it and make sure I stick to it and if I feel like coming on then ill turn my phone off so I dont have the temptation there either. Im going to speak to my gp about some other sleep meds or speak to another gp. I noticed something last night-its every night I feel the need to move- as long as im moving then I can remain abit calmer so all night I was actually just moving my foot like sliding it along the sheets or tapping my foot and it helped for around half an hr at a time but it still take s me hrs and hrs to even stop tossing and turning. But its every night, its like I get this adrenaline surge and I just cant stop moving even though I have tears of frustration and cramps and pulled muscles I just cant stop moving and then it gets to the point where I panic and cant breathe at all because I get worked up so I really need to address this part and now- not after therapy like my gp thinks. So I see her tomorrow and I need to speak to her about it.

So my goals for each day after thinking about what you said are:

-get into a sleep routine and stick to it that includes logging off the forums as well

- keep up fluids

-and try to keep up small snacks

- make sure I keep my hygeine- shower, teeth etc.

-abit of exercise

so those are my goals the ones I am currently struggling with a lot is the eating and the sleep as described above..

hope its ok that im taking notes of what your saying while your helping me with RA and the routines..

Re: rough time

morning sis @Snowie i got about 4 hrs so thats ok for now. how did you sleep? sounds like a rest day today... any specific self care activites planned? im holding steady but can say im ok as i am going normally atm. mum and the tribe are over, i thought they mightve left by now but not as yet, they do have plans soon so hopefully not too much longer with lots of news. theres an ok chat happening atm and we are all actually getting along so that is a bonus.

@Sans911how are you going today? how did you sleep?

Re: rough time

@outlanderI think setting up a sleep routine is a great idea. Making sure you log off here by a certain time. I have been thrying to do that and take my meds earlier at night.

Please don't be too hard on yourself if you don't achieve your goals, we all have bad days where nothing goes to plan and that is ok too.

Glad you got some sleep and things are going ok with family over atm.

I am going okish

@Snowieglad your going okish, its hard adjusting back so take your time with that one too

family have left now so can try and resettle abit more but at least no arguments which is good.

im having a think about a better routine as in what can i do as well as log off earlier. im thinking i would like to add in abit more reading of a good book as well

Re: rough time

@outlanderlook up sleep hygeine, it will give you some good ideas.

I now take my night meds between 8-9pm on a normal night, limit coffee, try and logg off here before 10pm, listen to a relaxation recording in bed, have my sensory box and safety list next to me in case I wake up during the night and resist the urge to use my phone/ipad once in bed.

I am not sure if it is the new meds or this, but it is helping me.

Re: rough time

Good morning @outlander @Snowie

I've had a bit of a lie in since waking earlier to feed the cats. Breakfast is done and I'm having a quiet, easy day today. Just housework to do and some sorting and putting away.

Re: rough time

@Sans911 sounds like a nice morning 💞
@outlander if you type sleep hygiene into the search bar here i am pretty sure you will find someone has already started a thread on it but there are loys of examples on Google.
It doesn't work for me every night and sometimes i will fail at it dramatically but i am trying not to be too hard on myself (one of my new goals that i suck at) if i dont achieve my goals.

Re: rough time

Hello Claire @outlander ,
So proud to hear your battle plans. I've got a couple of cents worth to throw in. I've noticed you mention a couple of times the limiting of caffine - desperate times often require desperate measures; have you considered cutting caffine out entirely? I've noticed a couple of terms in a couple of posts, that I didn't think was allowed; hemp & Valarian are very helpful, have you tried anti-hystamines? I have had doctors tell me it's fine to use them for sleep, it is not harmful nor addictive. I think I've mentioned Ensure before, there is also a hospital strength Sustagen, these are nutritional supplement drinks; might turn your poo a bit slimey, but it's better than starving 😉 I also used to have a vibrating mat/massage pad it was not very expensive {about $20}, I wonder whether it might help with the need for movement during sleep?
Love to you Claire

Re: rough time

@outlander I just wanted to get some housework & washing done and set everything I possibly could up on the bed to sort out before coming back to respond to your post. I was going to suggest like @Snowie has that an earlier log would be better - ideally it's an hour before you get into bed.

I take my meds about the same time as Snowie, but I will put my hand up as a poor role model because I stay connected until I'm almost asleep. So I propose you join me and Snowie @outlander in doing something similar. I'm aware you often don't go to sleep until midnight or later, and trying to pull back to 3hours later won't work I will the beginning. I would suggest taking your night meds between 10-11pm on weeknights for 1 week, then bring it back to 9-10pm. Log off after your meds, brush your teeth & whatever else you need to do, get a glass of water for overnight, leave a pad & pen/pencil by your bed so if you wake up during the night with a worry or nightmare you can write it down. These can be thrown away the morning after reviewing them. Read a book until you have fallen asleep. In the mornings set an alarm clock for the same time every day (except weekends) when you wake up so you don't oversleep, do your hygiene needs, have something to eat and drink & try to go for a small 10-15mins walk for the first week.

Perhaps use a diffuser with lavender & chamomile oils at the same time as you log off.

Reading a good book is great, however, there is sometimes a tendency to overread because it is so interesting. The key is as soon as you feel sleepy, put it down.

I know how much structure & routine is important to you so why don't you type out a sleep hygiene routine, put some nice images on (your own drawings perhaps) and stick to the wall somewhere you'll see it all the time. Keep a copy in your computer as it will change from time to time.

This jumpiness or restlessness in your legs could be a side effect of medication, so I would get it checked out as it's obviously contributing to your poor sleep.
