That's fantastic @outlander - to have a walking buddy - that would make exercise more user-friendly and a social event is healthy in all manner of ways - all the best with that
Yes - we do have a lot in common - and we are all a works-in-progress - I think I will be learning something interesting until the last day of my life - and it just occurred to me that classes and stuff starts again soon and I am wondering what you have in mind for the next term
One thing I need to attend to is to find out what's happening at the University of the Third Age - I never considered myself "Socially Isolated" until someone hung the label on me - sigh - at least I can find something interesting to get involved in
Having my hip playing up has disracted me from my new socially involved life-style but I have started by sending a birthday card to my relative and saying I hoped to see them soon and I have to organise my trip
I lost my post so I see that you are feeling nervous about some new activities with different people - I understand that - it's pretty normal I think - we want to make a good impression - we want to fit in but I don't want to lose myself in other people's ideas or be rude either - and maybe everyone has the same stuff - I never thought about it before
Years ago I was told I was arrogant because I would walk into a classroom and sit down with an attitude that seeing as I was there everyone could start - and actually - it was just me being over-confident, I have learned from that - I tend to take things more quietly now but I think back to a time when I hid under my "over-confidence" and yes "arrogance"
So we will have this in common - both of us starting new things and of course this won't be easy

Yes @outlander - the knee and the hip - I am falling apart physically - ahhhhhhhh - old age is no fun but yes -
I am totally convinced I shall be getting involved in a few local things - I left a message for the new social worker at the pain clinic that I was interested in a social group - they used to have one - aw - I think they have started a few times through the years
I only go to the pain clinic every six months so I have not been around that much - at the clinic - but yes - there's the local community centre - I went there a couple of times to have a couple of computer lessons and there seemed to be a lot happening
Really I did not feel the need before - I seem to feel okay alone but why not get to know a few people around here
But I draw the line at lawn bowls - that's fine for people who enjoy it but I am cack-handed - so awkward I must hold some kind of record for the worst wrapped parcels for presents and my daughter volunteers
oh yes - my grand-daughter is very good at art - I gave her some cash for her birthday and sent her a hand-crafted birthday card which is really unusual - I was glad to find a card that was so special and beautiful
All the best to your Introduction to Human Physiology - I would like to do that - actually I have studied formally a long time ago and it's really interesting. And it's great to be with young women - you need to have a peer group - yes and it is going in at the deep end
I find it feels a bit like going in the deep end myself but I have had quite a bit of practise
