Plodding is ok @Former-Member dragging your feet when under strain is understandable .. one day when things are lighter .. you will surprise yourself when you do a spontaneous little skip.
@Mazarita Hope your session was ok ...
the mods were worried our anonymity was compromised but I was joking ... I was never a big player in rocknroll ... just dragged along by friends from the flats, school or work ...
I had one friend who was quite a groupie and wanted me to accompany her to lots of gigs at which we got in free at the door ... I hadnt listened to commercial radio so I had never heard of any of them ... I would never have justified paying to get in ... Marc Hunter, Cold Chisel, Nick Cave etc and I was a little nonplussed at all the fuss over scruffy looking males ... yeah I can name drop ... but it didnt actually mean anything to me as I had never put them on a pedestal to start with ... I was just keeping my friend company and having a bit of a dance. Then when a male frind wanted some classical style keyboard on a record they were doing in a garage style recording I was invited to join in and I played a Yamaha DX7 and eventually bought one. The biggest buzz for me was coming to terms with the sound of pure tones and a keyboard "in tune". Then I got sick of the lack of responsiveness of the keys and went back to an acoustic ... a better one.
My brother loved photography and film and we talked a lot about it before he died .. I studied film at uni ... and like experimental, arthouse and Australian film. It is weird I loved photography when I was young and bought brothers old manual SLR .. but since left marriage and the digital revolution have stopped "clicking". Its a great hobby though.
@PeppiPatty
I think it is great to talk about addiction.
In many ways my mother was addicted to the piano and it became a negative in our family without the shame issues of substance abuse ... she could be self righteous and vent a lot of anger through her music. Believe me crashing piano chords can be unadulterated rage. As she was so judgemental when my brother just wanted to drink a few light beers that he made at home it became more obvious to me that piano practice can be just as much a problem as dope. But less honest. In the end she had 3 grand pianos in her house and 3 premature deaths, and social security fraud, and no proper conversations with me about any of it ... so now though I put a lot of time into music and love it ... I have a deep ambivalence too. I felt forced to accept her offer of one of the grands as there had been a war between her and my exhusband about who was making the most money ... and I was trying to bridge gaps. I couldnt play the piano personally so bartered it to a singing teacher for a years worth of lessons ... I realise that drugs do a lot of physical damage etc ... but just broadening the topic.
