Falling apart

Falling apart

I have just discovered this forum and am hoping that i can find some people who have simillar experiences as myself.

4 weeks ago my then partner decided to end our relationship, he suffers PTSD which has turned into somewhat chronic depression.

He asked that i remain his friend as he feels as though if i didnt he would have no body.

I am upholding his request and trying to support him the best that i can. He has not done anything to hurt me in anyway and he believes that ending the relationship is better for me then me continuing to live alongside him and his depression. He feels he is not worthy of somebody doing that.

He has expressed alot more since we have seperated about his feelings towards different things that have happened throughout his life and i guess as such contributed to how he feels today.

Taking out the relationship and looking at this as even just a friend, sometimes it is very difficult. I dont know what to say or do to some of the feelings he tells me.

I am new to this forum its my first post. I am unsure how much information to give, but i am hoping there is somebody out there who has some words of support or wisdom for me.

Thanks in advance

Re: Falling apart

Im a little frustrated this afternoon.

Its annoying that one person can unravel everything you as a carer and the person you are caring for has worked towards

Hi @Determined @dands26 @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @PeppiPatty
I’ve been reading through this and another thread and am stunned by how much all of you do, your responsibilities and the loads you’re carrying.
How are you all? Don’t answer that, just take a deep breath and not have to explain yourself, your situation or grapple with the mixed emotions and their accompanying guilt.
I’m wondering if I can ask about a discussion (I think was) last Tuesday? It was mentioned a few times and seems to have left a few of you upset and doubting yourselves. Is all ok?
It’s unbelievable what you are all juggling and i wouldn’t like to think that another ball has been thrown in there for you to keep up in the air.

Re: Falling apart

Morning @Sanatorium23 .....

While I was not a part of, amd have not been particularly affected by, Tuesday’s discussion, that may also be because we have not reached dx and treatment stages in our home situation. That being said, extra things do come out of left field at times, the send you sprawling, and you have to start picking up all the balls you have been juggling again, or extra balls do suddenly emerge.

Its a matter of combined approaches in terms of coping with that.

Carers need support as much as those they are caring for so, some therapists appear a little oblivious to that, but it is why carers pahments exist. The government policies recognise that without home carers people, there would be a helluva lot more strain on public resources to provide professional care in place of what we do, without the love that generally accompanies our efforts.

Carers need respite, or we burn out ..... and agencies such as Carers Australia recognise this.

We tend to be problem solvers, so we go looking for solutions, support, alternatives, breaking things down into manageable pieces.

We have grit.

We have humour .... although that can be savage and questionable at times .... 😏

Many of us have faith.

Many of us have creative outlets .... it is important to maintain an aspect of having your own life ....

I am sure other carers will be able to add to the list, but thank you for asking ..... because probably most of us are running so hard we don’t stop to consider it very often.
