@Former-Member ..... it feels like the mods are "popping in" less often ..... as in joining conversations on threads.

Are the forums much busier now at your end than they were ?

Are the longer-term mods less available ?

I think the convo on Riding a Wave thread is about a sense that the dynamics have changed, without being able to understand why that might be.

My first thought is whether it's circumstantial ..... transition changes ..... everyone is just busy behind the scenes and unconscious of the surface affect (or lack of usual affect) ?

Is it okay to tag you and other mods into threads for a chat with us ? Of course we don't know your shifts to be able to know who is on at any one time .....

Re: Forum changes

Hi there,
(A bit of a long post for my first one I know…perhaps grab a cup of tea!)
I know my name is probably a bit new for those of you in the forums community, but while @Former-Member and @NikNik are away, I wanted to drop in to respond to some of the concerns that have been raised in this thread. I am the General Manager Research, Policy and Programs at SANE Australia which means that I have oversight for the SANE Forums service. I have been involved with online mental health services for about 17 years and so know how important these services are in supporting people in their journey with mental illness. Outside of work, I’m a bit of a political nerd. My forum username comes from my fave TV show, The West Wing!
@NikNik is on some well deserved leave this month. Unfortunately @Former-Member has been unwell and has needed to take some time out from work. As happens in life, this was completely unexpected and took us by surprise. She is on the mend, but her exact return date is not yet clear. At this stage, @Former-Member will be back on deck in a week or two, but I will keep you posted.
We know that as the forums grow, ensuring that the health of our community remains as strong as it has ever been is super important. I can reassure you that the forums remain moderated 24/7 by a team of mental health professionals. As @Former-Member explained in her post earlier, we have recently brought on board some new mods to provide extra evening support.
When @NikNik and @Former-Member are back on deck, we will be spending some time to work through some of the issues which you have raised in this thread. I can see that there are some really useful insights into your experiences of the forums as well as some practical suggestions. Until then, please know that @Former-Member and the moderators will be here to keep the forums safe.
I can also see that folks have also noted some questions or concerns about the Help Centre in this thread. If you would like to raise these concerns formally with SANE through our complaints process, please email me via info@sane.org. Please note that this inbox is only monitored 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. It is not to be used to contact us for help and support.
Thanks again for everyone’s questions and comments. I love that we have such an active and supportive forum community and really appreciate how committed everyone is from forum members to moderators and community managers to ensuring that this is a safe and supportive space for everyone.

Re: Forum changes

Hello @Former-Member.... Nice to meet you too and thanks for you clarification of some points, including the missing Lauz. And thanks for taking the time to making yourself aware of these issues; it feels good that we are heard.

Re: Forum changes

I feel unsafe around too many wink winks especially if I am ignored, misprepresented or have to deal with innuendo and attack by unforgiving people who get the wrong end of the stick and do not make appropriate enquiries. All my life I haved suffered from an excess of other people's cliques and though I accept others freedom of choice and right of association. I find lines between bullying, bigotry and harrassment a little blurry and am afraid good will can suffer from an excess of legalism.

@Phoenix_Rising

Good Luck with unmuddling things. You do have the capacity. I also taught my children to jump over and jump IN puddles, I was strongly effected by your panic, in sympathy, things like that happen, but I hope we all try and be mature.

I had a fabulous couple of conversations today to 2 islamic Lebanese family men involved in fixing my car. It started with a 3 yo boy ... and then was extended when said 3 yo said "no". I briefly explained to him the sad history of my father, brother, and I and thay we have never been entitled to say "no", ... with devastating consequences. They got it quickly and now a lot of my local new migrants feel a bit better with their children and integrating into our county.

@Former-Member Super big thank you for introducing yourself. Fish are friends - not food! I super hope you are familiar with Finding Nemo, because otherwise that is just going to sound weird.

This is such a super giant muddle right now, but I am very sure that we are all striving for the same thing - to ensure that Forum Land stays the super safe and amazing place that it has been. Thank you for explaining your role at SANE and also for explaining where Lauz is. I super look forward to her and NikNik re-appearing in Forum Land.
