Mountain madness

Mountain madness

early days being diagnosed with bipolar disorder spending time in a mental health unit adjusting to meds thinking that mental health advice had to be adhered to when after years embracing risky ideas And behavior I had started my own business And challenged myself every step of the way, lack of sleep and all made shit load of friends and partied like tomorrow never was to come <br>It seems life was an awesome buzz and some heavy down times In between, but unable to manage my own life and relationships contemplating suicide at times when there was nothing to be down about I was failing on a personal level every time so I turned back to get assistance hoping I wouldn't end up alone because of this I found a Psycologist I felt comfortable with then Psyciatrist who just threw medication at me and assumed I would keep taking it religiously and not self medicate ;Then the Psycologist left town to private practice all I seemed to do is a heap of K10 forms and hand over my trust to a professional who I don't trust and who can't see the complexity in living with this for 10 years now other than mind numbing meds being the answer I gave up on psychology And medication I felt like an idiot that was paying more than I had to learn behavior therapy I can't sustain
;Lesson learnt my demons hate exercise so I punish them with it couple that with late night down hill sk8 pushes my anxiety and desire for risk &
;I climb mountains most days but sometimes i have to sit at the bottom and recognize its a huge mountain and I ain't a mountain goat

Hi @Drewbola

Welcome to the Forums!
I'm sorry to hear that the psychologist you trusted moved on. It's so hard to find someone to trust and it's a real let down when they are no longer around.

Can I ask how long ago this was? Recent?

Re: Mountain madness

Hi @Drewbola Welcome

It was a very concise post ... you crammed a lot of information in .. wow. .. sorry about the hard times.

You also made me laugh at the end with your dry humour ... however I know a human mountain goat ... they exist ... REALLY.

Re: Mountain madness

why there is such a disconnect between GP's and mental health
Why is it I can be diagnosed with bipolar and surely that is in my health records but when I show to a GP about increased anxiety and depression I get asked to do a K10 and then told I may need a Psycologist with limited sessions coupled anti depressants
bipolar doesn't need a K10 to work out how extreme it can be at times
Just some simple conversation and understanding of the issues without limitations on access to psychologists surely this May ease the lack of trust people have in the mental health services and eleiviate the feeling of helplessness when you have reached 10 sessions in a year

Re: Mountain madness

I can relate to that, it's a struggle to know what to do when those sessions are up, I've felt so helpless and spending money on a psych for myself when my kids are missing out on doing things like after school activities makes me feel worse / I've been lucky to get some extra support offered though so I shouldn't complain. Another option may be looking at free counselling through community health or similar?
Also agree about the k10s I hate doing then but last time I said no they said just do it so that we can track how you are going over time...

Re: Mountain madness

I'm glad to hear that some of us our being assisted, it is just that after living in Sydney all my life till 2013 and going through diagnosis and treatment down there it was a financial burden to manage my mental health at the start knowing next to nothing about how to deal with it other than medication they assigned me
Then I move regionally and began to see a Psycologist after loosing a parent and not coping only own then my 10 visits are up I no longer earn what I had previously and cannot afford private sessions
Go gives a script and sends me on my way
Recently I go to see a GP about anxiety and I'm told I will have to wait for my file to be moved before anything and as there is no bulk billing I book to return visit and the Go has left the clinic
Why Bother ?
I do apply good diet , exercise however when I'm at my worst I can't find the energy to jump through hoops

Re: Mountain madness

I have really struggles to find a good GP ... finally had one for about 7 years and credit his sensitivity for self and son with saving our lives ... it really makes a difference .. but he is sick and not practising .. Iwe all have our limits ... he knew I really appreciated him ... so on to a new one .. I am giving her the best ... but waiting the 6 weeks til I see her again is hard ...

I have always been frugal and stretched out my MH sessions ... in last 3 yeaars I restricted them more and more ... maybe experimenting with my tolerance ... 10 down to 6 one year .. then 2 ... then none ... except for the 2 with Carers Vic ... started up again ... but I am not in the middle of crises like you @Former-Member .

We often think we are alone .. and so when I read these posts .. I can really relate ... my old GP thought I was addicted to counselling and tried to go it alone ... hoping these forums help me manage that addiction ... or is it just our modern language in talking about age old human natural needs and desires ...

Hi to you all

Re: Mountain madness

Maybe yes it's just our age old need to break it down verbally with some one you trust and for all of us at some point in time we are alone with no one to break it down with, I had a great psyc and he had helped me get through a really tough time when my marriage finally ended and kids moved 800 km away with mum I began to build up tolerance to myself with the need for help over the last 5 years because of the low points when I've had no one I've had to survive it on my own
This forum has highlighted the impact mental health has on us at times and the lack of access to services To stay on top of things
