The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I'm not sure if changes from medication, my new role as Community Guide or something else, but something has shifted & this time I hope it lasts. Unfortunately, these shifts in the past two years have lasted mere days, weeks or months before I slip back down the slippery slope of deep and persistent depression. I have an extremely long, slow and painful way to go yet before I can even begin to say that I've started to recover (or whatever you want to call getting better from MI, particularly BPD).

Being a CG seems to have given me renewed purpose and reasons to stay alive, as I feel that helping others in this role means being responsible for my own health & being a role model for others in their journeys. I know I'm not always going to get it 'right'. I'm human after all, with MI, and I have my own frailties & vulnerabilities.

But I'm also incredibly fed up and dissapointed in my life in the last year in particular. I never could never have imagined that I would be in the position that I'm in now, chronically suicidal, repeatedly in Emergency departments that I used to work in that now I'm ashamed to present as a patient & I'm judged by my own peers that I so previously admired & respected.

I been incredibly isolated recently, and I live in fear that my life will come to a premature end by my own doing. But I also been fortunate to have good professional clinicians that I have sought out myself, and had to sometimes fight for. And I have the love and respect of a dear family member which means the world to me.

Through my journey in the last year, my clinicians and I have worked through and adapted a strategy that focuses primarily on keeping my safe, responding appropriately to my frequent crises that I bounce to and from, and supporting my fragile emotional and social needs. It's been incredibly challenging, but I believe it's finally working to improve my life one day at a time.

So now I'm feeling a little stronger and able to take more control over my MI & working towards improving my days and finding purpose again. In order to do this, I've had to be more honest with myself, my clinicians and my personal support about my behaviours that are so harmful and risky, and I have had to trust them that I won't be judged all the time which has allowed me to break down some emotional barriers & I be supported wholly.

By being honest, I'm reducing my harmful behaviours, even though it places me at greater levels of distress and increases my vulnerability. But these levels of distress are also reducing in the span of time I'm staying distressed because I'm reaching out for help earlier.

My GP and psychiatrist whom I saw today are satisfied and agreeable with my current focus, yet are still cautious but suppotive me to assist in steering my own course. So what now? I insisted on staying on 2nd daily medication pick up for safety, weaning myself from sleeping medication even though my sleep patterns are so chaotic and lacking, improving my social interactions a little at a time, finding something to enjoy each day (even if it's the daft cat and his antics), and staying on ad medication for the time being.

Why do I tell you all this? Because I still need your support, encouragement, and occasional guidance to stay on track and keep me focused. Remind me of these goals occasionally, and come on this journey with me. I know you are doing this already, but this is my new chapter (obviously of a very long book).

Thanks for reading

@Zoe7 @Snowie thanks for the lovely posts.

It's not been too bad today. I took a coffee and Easter egg to one of the volunteers from the op shop. We sat in the Park. My manager from the op shop called a few days ago and said he was doing it tough.

I helped another volunteer set up her first event online. And my neighbour has been chasing me several times today for a chat. I've had to put him off for a bit but probably can't any longer. So lots of helping others.

I've cleaned my bathroom, laundry and the litter tray & mopped the floors.

Not a terribly exciting day. But it's really just an extra long, boring weekend for me.

Morning @Zoe7

Thanks for your post over there ⬅️. I'm sorry that you're feeling so unwell, and I hope you managed to get back to some more sleep this morning. Sounds like another complete rest day is in order.

Mr A decided that a couple of hours sleep was all that was needed & he woke me an hour earlier than his usual feeding time. My sleep pattern has been completely trashed again by the effects of this pandemic. I'm not sleeping until the early hours of the morning despite how tired I feel hours before.

I see my pdoc tommorow for the first time in about 3 or 4 months. I'm not sure whether to ask for sleeping medication or a short term course of antidepressants.

Take care today & this week Zoe7. Try not to let things pileup on top of you. 💜 ❤️ 💙 💜

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

Again - I am really sorry I was not able to read and reply to your post last night Hon - that must have made it feel terrible for you and that is the last thing I want @Sans911

I did manage to get back to sleep for another couple of hours after feding the fur babies. ...and yes most likely another rest day but I will see how I feel later.

Ot totaly sucks your sleeping is all over the place Hon - I certainly know how that feels. Do you think that is somewhat a result of having too much time oen your hands and therefore too much time to think? I find that mine becomes disrupted when that happens - and that has been a concern I have had with these holidays.

I am glad you see your pdocs tomorrow - they may be able to help in the short term to get you back to a routine - hope so anyway sweetheart

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

To be honest @Zoe7 I was concerned that I had really upset you, and yes, I took your non response initially that I had dragged you into something that I shouldn't have. I thought you might, have gone again. I have been back & edited one of the posts because my wording was a little 'strong'.

I do feel though that conversation is very triggering and detailed, and I can only imagine for many it's not an easy place to go to. Nonetheless, yes there is a wonderful empathetic connection developed.

Yes, I think my insomnia is possibly due to lack of meaningful distractions and purpose. I don't have as much to look forward to so the overthinking is cranking up a lot.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I am so sorry about that @Sans911 You definitely did not upset me or drag me into anything - it really was very unfortunate timing in regards to the meds effects. It doesn't happen often but occasionally I feel really sick and if I don't lie down immedistely I will fall down.

I agree - that conversation is very detailed and could be very triggering. I am surprised some of it has not been picked up by the mods - at the very least an intervention to remind them of the guidelines. There is a very empathetic connection there but sailing very close to the guidelines too - so hopefully an eye is being kept on the conversation.

Yeah - I so totally get the insomnia thing. That has been one of my concerns also for these holidays - too much time on my hands to think with not being ble to go anywhere snd do things. I am going to try to keep busy around the home though once I feel up to it. For now resting is necessary though...going to give myself another couple of days to do that then force myself to move nd get stuck into some things ....hopefully get the loungeroom painted as I have left that job for a few years now.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

I think that's more what I was trying to say without saying yesterday @Zoe7. And what I was most upset about. I didn't know if I should do something about it (ie report it because of those reasons). And it possibly was misinterpreted or misread. And that's OK because it happens. I was also very concerned it that it had impacted on the wellbeing of someone I care about a great deal (as do you). We all have our 'safe' corners here even though they belong to no one.

Please no falling off ladders my lovely friend. You've had more than your fair share of accidents!

I'm going back to sleep for a bit now. I'll catch up with you later today.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing

@Sans911 It might be worth sending an email to the SANE team with your concerns and to ask for it is monitored closely. I suspect it already is but with it being a weekend and public holidays that might not be as closely watched across many mods as it would be on a normal weekday.

I think that 'safe' corner has possibly gone now and the best move forward for Outlander is to start a new thread - even if the present conversation ends there will be some residual feelings and concerns left over - it would also mean those who would normally subscribe to that thread could delete/block that thread from their notifictions. Then the conversation could continue without being involved at all in it. I only reply (mostly) to when I am tagged now so I had to read over that thread a little to see what was happening ...and a few posts was enough! Maybe for now that is a way to go to avoid any adverse effects for you personaly from what is being discussed ...just a thought to help protect yourself for the time being.

Hope you get a few more hours sleep Hon
