My Thai Discovery Journey

My Thai Discovery Journey

Hi All,

Two weeks ago I decided that I needed to step outside my comfort zone and change my scenery by heading over to North Thailand for a month. It’s not a completely new experience as I have been in this area before but this time I will be there for longer, will venture further afield and will travel alone.

I am excited by this journey and intend it to be one of self discovery as much as absorbing the culture of this beautiful and friendly part of the world. My daily Yoga sessions and a Meditation Workshop have prepared me to be at peace with myself and being in this new environment will further facilitate a sense of calm as well as enlightenment.

I invite you to share my journey. I intend this thread to also serve as a travel diary and will post some pics.

I have woken early and am thinking about the last minute things that need to be done. Tonight I will be sleeping on a plane (hopefully as it’s not the easiest way for me to get rest) and come morning, I will be in a different country.

This trip is meant to be one of simplicity. I am taking just a carryon bag and won’t be partaking in the usual touristy types of things. I won’t to live the life there and am open to whatever unfolds. I have booked the first couple of nights accommodation and then will play it by ear.

So come along and let the adventure begin.

Day 6

Didn’t get to the Jazz Club last night as it was bucketting down with rain. Had a queasy belly that disturbed my sleep so I decided to put off the trip to Pai until a bit later.

This was breakfast.

The king is being cremated tomorrow in Bangkok, a year after his death. He was a really popular guy and had even on the throne a really long time so the nation has been in mourning all this time. Black and white on the Thai TV stations, no images on the Google Search page and so on. Things will be rather quiet and most businesses closed so people can pay their respects.

I spent the day resting, had a swim and then a traditional Thai massage that did wonders in releasing the knots in my body. Lots of creaking and cracking going on but I feel good now. There’s a quaint little place just a stones throw away that is cheap as chips (probably cheaper)

Will head out and get some dinner later as my appetite is returning.

Hope you are all well. Had to turn off notifications as they were coming so thick an fast and the somewhat feeble internet here wasn’t coping.

Hope you are also enjoying coming along on this cyber journey with me.

@soul I just wanted to thank you for taking us all along on this exciting journey of yours. Northern Thailand is somewhere I've always wanted to go, but now probably never will due to health problems. Your journey is probably as close as I'll ever get, so again thank you. It all looks so exciting, a whole world away from Australia.

Thank you @Queenie @outlander @Maggie @utopia @Former-Member @Shaz51@CheerBear@Phoenix_Rising@Determined@Bimby2@BambiFawn@Appleblossom@Former-Member@Former-Member@Ant7@TAB@Sans911@Former-Member and everyone following my trip.

It has been envigorating and calming for my body, mind and soul. It is indeed very different from Australia. A lot of things markedly so. Just takes a little getting used to. Spending a month here allows me to do some of the touristy things but also just soak up the everyday culture. Even learning a bit of the lingo.

Your Thai massage sounds great. @soul

There were no high rise in Chang Mai when I was there. Only a fabulous mall in Bangkok. Are you planinng to go up the Maekong?

Hi @soul

It really has been very interesting and such a joy to follow your cyber Thai journey. Thanks for sharing it with us. I do wish I had more opportunities to travel, but this is the next best thing.

I remember the Thai King dying about a year ago, there was such an outpouring of grief amongst Thai people. He must of been really something special.
