My Thai Discovery Journey

My Thai Discovery Journey

Hi All,

Two weeks ago I decided that I needed to step outside my comfort zone and change my scenery by heading over to North Thailand for a month. It’s not a completely new experience as I have been in this area before but this time I will be there for longer, will venture further afield and will travel alone.

I am excited by this journey and intend it to be one of self discovery as much as absorbing the culture of this beautiful and friendly part of the world. My daily Yoga sessions and a Meditation Workshop have prepared me to be at peace with myself and being in this new environment will further facilitate a sense of calm as well as enlightenment.

I invite you to share my journey. I intend this thread to also serve as a travel diary and will post some pics.

I have woken early and am thinking about the last minute things that need to be done. Tonight I will be sleeping on a plane (hopefully as it’s not the easiest way for me to get rest) and come morning, I will be in a different country.

This trip is meant to be one of simplicity. I am taking just a carryon bag and won’t be partaking in the usual touristy types of things. I won’t to live the life there and am open to whatever unfolds. I have booked the first couple of nights accommodation and then will play it by ear.

So come along and let the adventure begin.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

Enjoyed a small but nice Christmas - just my daughter and son and pets. We had a lovely lunch prepared by my daughter including a yummy homemade cheesecake. No communication from my “nasty” brother or sister but an email and phone call from my older brother. First Christmas without my Mum so that was sad. She always made these wonderful fruitcakes. She would start in November by soaking the fruit in rum or brandy and each member of the family would receive one on Christmas Day. Didn’t have fruitcake at all this year. It just wouldn’t have been the same.

I’m having a bit of a break from medical appointments but they start back in earnest next week. I did go to the doctor during the week to get more pain meds as I am still in a fair bit of discomfort at times. I do my exercises at home three times a day and can see some progress. I can now do a reasonable job of showering myself so that’s a big step forward. Everything is very exhausting though.

New Year’s Eve - just a quiet one - me at home. Suppose I should start a new thread soon.

Please tag me to your threads so I can catch up with what everyone’s been doing. Ready to join the world again.

@soul My mother could make cakes like the one you discribed. I tried shortly after I got married. Instead of 1/1/2 tablespoons of brandy, I made a mistake and added 1/1/2 cups. Even after the evaporation it tasted great. Didn't last long either.

Good to read you Wei.l be out and about.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

Glad to hear that you are managing your own shower now @soul. That's a huge improvement and things will just keep getting better.
They are having a Mew Years Eve Party on a new thread. I don't know how to add the link. But it's on the social thread.
Enjoy the rest of your night. I'm off to bed.

Re: My Thai Discovery Journey

Morning @soul so good to hear from you! Your Christmas sounds a bit like mine with my girl, boy and pets. I'm sorry you were missing your mum, but it sounds like you have some good memories too. I love the fruitcake story. My long passed Grandma used to make Christmas pudding, the old and slow way, with coins in it.

I'm so impressed with your progress. Your hard work is paying off. It's a big step to be able to shower by yourself. I face 2018 with a bit of anxiety but things are ok right now and I'm trying to just go with that. Wishing you a happy, peaceful, safe new year.
