Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

@PeppiPatty:

Hoping the anxiety has been treating you better today. Wonderful that you are going to your son's for dinner for the first time! Good news too about the physio.

@Appleblossom:

I agree that all members are welcome to join in this discussion at any time. It's always good to see a new 'face'. I too miss @eth and wonder how she is. It's good to hear you may be building up a rapport with your psychologist. I don't remember reading before that you were seeing one, had the idea you were only seeing the GP. At this time in my life, I too have chosen health practitioners in the general local area. Even the peer workers come from nearby. Somehow gives me a little feeling that I'm part of a caring local community.

Good luck @Mazarita I hope Visit goes really well.. If overwhelmed just focus on making silly faces with the toddler lol I always find kids much easier than adults

Glad you're feeling respected by the psychologist now @Appleblossom i hope that you find a good working relationship with your psychologist continues

Thanks @Former-Member. I've been reading what you are going through on your thread and my heart goes out to you. No easy answers have come to me so it has felt best to just listen there. You are not invisible.

Re: Night Shift

I hope the entertaining went well @Mazarita & you enjoyed the company! Your anxiety/apprehension regarding the meeting is very understandable.

@Appleblossom hope you got some decent sleep eventually. I am glad you are now building a therapuetic relationship with your psychologist. Maybe it is better not to have a definate label? It is only really helpful for gaining a dsp & claiming medications on pbs - I think. Otherwise, I might as well say about myself - experiences depression, anxiety, psychosis, body image & eating issues & trauma related symptoms... Doctors (& society) like to put people in little boxes, which I personally don't think is helpful.

Matt's sister came to visit. I was too anxious & didn't feel like being social yesterday afternoon when we got home. I even skipped having a shower to avoid social interaction. I just got to see her briefly when I went to use the house bathroom this morning. Her boys came over to the cabin to play with the kittens, but they didn't talk to me (they seem to forget who I am everytime they see me...) I just went over to the house with my partner before to give them two animal books for Xmas & they had already gone. Feeling a bit depressed about it all. I hate Xmas.... They won't be here for Xmas day, as they spend it with their father's family every second year. (Actually a relief, as we don't have to play happy families with the alcoholic... just my partner, me & the kittens in the cabin) .....Apparently they are coming again after Xmas though, as my partner's mum's birthday is on the 27th December.

I'm just feeling depressed in general today... living situation, lack of functioning, happy family for Xmas, worrying about $$, back, neck & shoulder pain, getting tired from doing more than "normal".... etc.

@PeppiPatty - I agree it would be good for more people to join in on this thread! I know I have read some threads before & because everyone seemed to know eachother I didn't know how to join in.

Don't worry @Appleblossom & @PeppiPatty my partner is not invited to see my new psychologist who does CBT for psychosis. I haven't gone back to see the "relationship counsellor" social worker at Lifeline. I've been too busy travelling half an hour on the highway to go to yoga twice a week & to see the exercise physiologist, so I think that is why my partner hasn't questioned me about why I'm not seeing him - PHEW!

I'm going to go read - I've been up since 5:30 browsing facebook, reading relevant articles, online window shopping, sent an email etc.

Namaste,

Anna

Hi Girls,

How are you? I went to work and the Physio....then, diriving down the street, saw heaps of cute 4 year old toys on the side of the road...I grabbed me all for this little girl I used to care for...LJ was helping me make decisions about that.

Im definately getting a Vibration Machine by hypervibe, it's $191 deposit and $20 per fortnight for 65 paynments. The Pysio was showing me some excersises and he said that it will def. help me with the tiredness.

xx

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member

How discouraging that the kids had gone before you could give them the animal books. That is such a sweet and thoughtful gesture of you. If you were really looking forward to giving them the books, I wonder if you could post it in the mail? After all, who doesn't love receiving a Christmas package, am I right? Otherwise, you could always wait until you see them next time, and I am sure it will make them very happy. Christmas in the cabin sounds lovely and cozy. Do you and your partner (and the kittens) have much planned? If you are looking for some extra company, keep in mind that we'll be here enjoying a Christmas Friday Feast and you are invited to come along and join in the fun 🙂 Reading is a soothing balm for the soul, I hope it is bringing you peace and calm this evening. Keep us posted on how you're doing. All the best, Mosaic.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member....

Thank you for your reply. It was disappointing... I will just wait for them to come after Xmas for partner's Mum's birthday. M partner's Mum really should of told us when they were leaving - she isn't very thoughtful like that.... My partner was going to give them the books to them yesterday, but one of them was asleep & his mum said not to! *throws hands up in air* I get frustrated at her sometimes... I would love to have one child one day, but my partner believes I will definately get postnatal depression & will need the assistance of his mum to care for a child. That puts me off wanting to have a child.... I have lived on her farm for over 12 months now & the constant contact with "in laws" causes anxiety.... Partners in Recovery are going to help me fill in a government housing application in the new year & I want to apply for a house in a coastal city - 3 hours away. It used to be just over an hour away when I lived in a capitol city. I miss the beach - I've been once this year & I was so unwell & suicidal I could barely enjoy it - I kept thinking what is the point of life if I can't live here & instead live in a stressful living situation far, far from the beach. A child or life near the beach...??

I finished reading my novel. I was slightly disappointed with some parts of the ending. Overall, it was a good read - The First Phone Call From Heaven - Mitch Albom. I've read 3 of his novels before & was browsing the bookstore shelves on Sunday & found books I haven't read. I have put in an order for another one of his books at the library.

@PeppiPatty what do you do for work?? You must be in a lot of pain to spend so much money on a machine. I googled "vibration machine by hypervibe", but couldn't work out what it is. I'm imagining it is a very high tech massage chair? I'm glad the physio helped...

Namaste,

Anna

Re: Night Shift

Dearest Anna
Thanks for your message
I'm not in pain just in last two years completely knackered
I've done heaps exercise in the past but now ....... Yeah well .........
1: Love your pic those pics of kittens are very cute and still look at them

2 like very much reading you. A lot of what you write I can identify with. I moved right next to the beach 2:5 years ago but only until ....... Now am I comfortable to go. I'm going every afternoon for half an hour or an hour to take Arlo for a swim: @Maritza prompting had helped that

I work as a Support worker : I've worked as Support Worker since 2006: in the past I have cared for everyone : some very tragic cases and I feel strong and good what I've done on the past but now ; after a rich and interesting time ..... I only do two jobs per fortnight. I am hoping to go up on work next year though. My work people are very very good to me.
I've also done enough vollunteer work for me. I love reading about others studies. If you read @Aenoron's post : it is great to read what others do.

What have I learned? Dunno if the right stuff

Anxiety can be managed not stopped
Need for contact with others is primary

I'm mixed up with the vibration machine. I worked with it with a very nice Pysio I told him about my life and what my problems are. There's a deal where you pay 200 for deposit and $20 per fortnight for 65 payments for a mini machine ...... I'm thinking about it ......
The Pysio told me that it will definately make me a lot stronger if I do carry ain exercises on it
