Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-MemberMy son's diagnosis or mine isnt really clear. They have mentioned bi-polar for him and depression for me ... but they dont really know and seem reluctant to go there. He is 23.

I appreciate you asking and responding. I realised your partner and you are close ... That is the way of people who care about each other.. just different types of relationship. But it is also why I thought it important to keep boundaries separate.

I know you have had a difficult time recently ... good idea to have an early night.

Namaste

Re: Night Shift

I am not sure .. I wish I could tell you @PeppiPatty... I see it as each person ... sees something that they need or would like .. and desire grows to work towards it. I think it hierarchies of need are relevant.

I try hard to motivate my son ... dont have easy answers ... lovely to see you and your balloon.

There are so many feedback loops in neurology its a bit more complicated than a sticker or a lolly ... or a coffee or overseas trip.

Re: Night Shift

@PeppiPatty Sorry you are feeling an increase in anxiety. That in itself can give rise to feelings of exhaustion, lack of motivation. Do you practice any mindfulness breathing? It helps me at times, even just focussing on the breath, taking it a bit deeper and letting it gently slow down. I can't always do this, or forget to do it, but it usually helps when I do. Hope you get some good rest and relief from symptoms. I agree with @Appleblossom that your balloon is a cheery sight on the forum.

Re: Night Shift

@PeppiPatty Sounds good that you are going to physio. They can be great at helping our bodies, which tends to help our minds too. I've been a bit slack with my physio exercises but did them again today. I'm heading off to bed now. Good to chat again this evening. ox

Re: Night Shift

I am ok @PeppiPatty Thanks for asking ... but bloody bloody hell .. its 1.30 am and I still am up and on the forum and have a gig lunchtime tomorrow in town in fancy hotel ...

I only have peppermint lollies ... dont take them all ... now ... yes we do have to share. We can only try and be hospitable to other posters and hope they join in ... sometimes it might be more about what they have going on in their lives than us ... I just keep replying to newbies etc ... I wonder about @eth ... we got on well ... and I hope she posts again. I never cut people out but you cant for ce them to join in.

With your car accident and other experiences it makes sense you are pretty unique.

I went to my psychologist today. I think we might work out, after all.

At first I was a bit unsure

... as she said I had the right to leave chocolate in the fridge and expect that son would leave it there ... I thouht no way was that happening .. but then sneaky me ... have started leaving dark chocolate around ... and he has had enough so will leave some lying around for me ... just subtle .. but if I bought Lindt or milk chocolate I'd have buckleys of getting my hands on it.

Then I looked her up and investigated a bit and thought it worth sticking it out ... there arent many in walking distance so thats a plus. I think she respects me now ... even though I missed 2 appointments!

The issue I wanted to resolve in talking to her was relationship boundaries and about my right to be in my piano room without being jostled and moved around whenever he wanted to play the grand ... that seems to have resolved as he has been great about that for the last few months .. once I made a stand ...

Good Night Ladies .. i have to sign off ...

Re: Night Shift

Half an hour past my midnight bedtime and I'm too wired to sleep. Big day and evening (by my standards) of 'outside world' activities and encounters. Tomorrow morning early I meet the first cousin I've never met before. She and the small clan of six others she is travelling with are coming straight here from the airport to hang out for several hours while they wait to be able to check in to their hotel. There will be a daughter aged 18, a son aged 15 and an adopted great nephew, a toddler (all related to me). Two boyfriends and a young friend. Scared and excited to be entertaining all these new people at once, especially since we are family and I really hope it works out well between us. Also, this flat is very minimal for two people. Some quick rearrangement with outdoor furniture will be needed when they arrive. I'm also worried about how many glasses I've got for drinks (we are low on them). Will be going out somewhere for lunch, not really organised but I've got a couple of basic ideas. A bit overwhelmed and worried. At the same time it's like I'm waiting to open presents when I was a kid at xmas.

@Appleblossom I just saw your post after finishing this one. Sleep well.
