Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member Does it help to surround yourself by your beautiful cats ... mine help me calm down and take me out of negative thought loops. Yes hang in there ... dont be afraid of losing the good things you do have ... feelings come and go ... breathe.

Welcome @sunny1

Glad you faced AND SURVIVED a big trip with family @eth

@Crazy_Bug_Lady I wake up occasionally with weird dreams.

It was rarer though the period I was extremely stressed ... I see it as the way unconscious works through stuff ... dont be scared of them though acknowledge to yourself if you had a nightmare ... I sometimes jot down stuff about them and other times ... cant remember ... Dreams can be scary but are often a working through process ... so not actually bad in itself.

And @Mazarita and @PeppiPatty

Such a beautiful collaboration ... poem and image and sound ... thank you so much .. both of you.

Dear @Maritza
I'm no psychiatrist or Psychotherapist or anything but like @Crazy_Bug_Lady you are both intellectual enough to pinpoint the relevance of your dreams and memories of trauma

I have written my poems which are associated to my dreams ...... Could you do an amazing utube about a dream one day ?

Dear @Crazy_Bug_Lady

I love this writing ...... I'm no dream analyst or anything but I love your story ..... Going from a train to uplifting things : your Dad and step mum rescuing you.

Do you know anything about dreams ? I don't but when I write my poems I feel like I ....... Understand them more
I love this.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member I hope you have been able to get some sleep and that you can feel much better than this very soon.

Welcome @sunny1. This discussion thread is open to any subject at all and we often just check in with each other day by day for a chat about how we are going and what's on our mind. Glad you posted here.

@Appleblossom Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and so glad you like @PeppiPatty's beautiful poem, and the video. The images in the video are from the internet, royalty-free which means they are legal to use in projects like this. I then did the work with image superimpositions and editing. The music is by an independent electronic musician in Italy who is a long time net friend and who I have collaborated with before. He has given me permission to use his musical tracks in creative projects.

@PeppiPatty You are clever to think of that because I have made short films about dreams.

Re: Night Shift

Dear @Maritza

People's creativity blow me away. I'm absolutely nothing in the wide world ...... My experiences have I guess defined me but that poem you like ..... When I did it ..... Lukewarm response ..... When you did your slant on it ...... It was like something in me became alive and transferred into ..... Putting. Bad time to rest
Your creativity did that. When I write about my very limited knowledge on dreams ..... Yeah ..... Maybe you can take it up and be ..... Stagnant ..... Say things you have no idea or be ...... B$&@'g creative which you were and help me move on

Heaps of compliments there Maritza
Take them on board and let them sink in a little at a time xxx

Re: Night Shift

Dearest @Maritza
Let's focus on the pictures you focus on then ........ Just for the moment ........ Just think of that ......
Is anything in those pictures feel like something that you would feel inspired to work on ..... Turn it positive :
A glimpse of a blue sky
The shoes you are wearing
Is something you can remember ..... Only working with the picture that you can think of turning it
Turning a scary situation into a positive is the only way mi can be moved ......

I can only write of the video that you did for me but the only thing I ever thought of was : nothing that you did

Re: Night Shift

Hi @NikNik, @Mazarita, @Appleblossom & sunny....

Thank you for your kindness in responding to my distress. Sorry I have not posted earlier to say I am safe. I cried some tears & watched half a movie (Paper Towns - the book is MUCH better!) to help me to calm down - I was too tired to concentrate on the movie & went to bed - my partner continued to watch it & I could not sleep still - I fell asleep at about 12am & I got about 5 hours of sleep. I layed in bed for a while just patting the cats & resting. At first I was still so exhausted that I thought I would have to cancel my exercise physiologist appointment. I made it to the appointment though & had coffee with my partner afterwards at a cafe. I feel a lot better now. Thanks for taking the time to show concern, as I was extremely distressed.

Yes, @Appleblossom is correct re dreams & nightmares - the research suggests they are a way for our subconsious to process what is happening in our lives - scientists can't be certain on this matter though. There is a lot of mystery surrounding their purpose, but that is their best educated guess. (& yes the kittens help!)

@Mazarita can you post a link to your video again. With all the praise you have recieved for it & reading how you made it - I would really like to see it now & I'm feeling too tired to try & find it. You sound very creative & I imagine this creativity helps you manage your symptoms of mental illness?

@PeppiPatty - I'm not a fan of poetry usually, but when I read your poem I did like it. That makes you very talented - getting a compliment from me re poetry, haha! I imagine this out let of creativity helps you also. One of my cousins wrote a lot of poetry & won a lot of competitions for her poems & was even published. She lives in New Zealand where I was born (came to Australia when I was 3 months old) - I don't see her & she stopped talking to me on facebook, so I'm not sure if she still writes.

One of the reasons I searched for & found a psychiatrist willing to gradually reduce my medication is that the antipsychotics dull my creativity. I used to enjoy painting especially. I got A's for art in high school. I would love to paint FREELY again.

I hope everyone is having an 'okay' day

Namaste (The divine in me honours the divine in you),

Kind thoughts,

A
