Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita

I agree with you re estimation of conflict situations in social media ... I prefer discussions to being in a vacuum and you are not a heavy advice giver ...

Yet I have often been accused of "sitting on things" and "not letting people know" ... or agro projections like "do you think I am a mind reader" etc etc

... so I am making sure I do not do that ... and am clear ... if stuff like that goes on ... it is simply a recipe for MI ... so I call it out ... and believe, on this forum especially, its important to be clear. Perhaps instructive for those who dont yet realise the pyscho-social aspects of the genesis of MI. I have an adequate command of English now ... I dont know how much of my earlier being mute was due to mum's MI or her coming from a background other than English. There was not just a paucity of money there was a paucity of words and understanding ...

I am still taking things gently ... still have dreadful headache ... played recorder .. hadnt touched it in ages ... had a great lesson with student ... shopped for groceries .. felt a lovely friendly vibe in my little local shopping centre ... mixing 2 traditional cuisines tonight ... Dutch and Indian ... son has a cold and wants hearty soup ... so its ...white lentil soup with Rookwurst

Glad you found some motivation for getting creative again.

Its good sometimes to be computer free ...

Re: Night Shift

Hi all,
I've been struggling a bit lately - not low - but really anxious and having major panic attacks. It's really hard to do everything, was sick end of last week and I think I'm over that but still having lots of nausea but wondering if it's part of the anxiety now doh!!

So i haven't forgotten everyone just really finding life a bit crazy and hard.

Hope you're ok @Appleblossom @PeppiPatty @Mazarita @Former-Member @eth

Re: Night Shift

Dont worry about us @Former-Member ... you have heaps on your plate ... work kids ... sickness etc ... it takes time to recover ... try and work out what of your current supports will be around next year ... ... when you start teaching...were they encouraging you to go back?

Are the support workers going to be around to do pickups ... or help with respite ... are your kids ok with group care and after school care ... it is huge what you are endeavouring to do.

Often people who manage full time work have back up plans ... and people behind them ... thinking of you

Re: Night Shift

Dearest @Maritza

Thanks. I saw the police pretty upset yesterday and was told by the policeman that public housing will replace the security door because he has destroyed it.

I'm home alone ....... But something even better happened ...🚴🏻🎷🎺🎸🍟🌭🌯🍭
I was pretty hysterical on the phone to my Mum a couple of days ago on exhaustion ..... TjT my mother in law dislikes me .... I rang her yesterday and she was furious at me for being so emotional on the phone ....
I said ......... Mum ...I am exhausted we. all get emotional sometimes. She kept on being angry at me by saying .... you made me very worried. I said...... Mum we have all done this.

This morning I had to get up, take hub. To chemist , take him home then get myself home. My tummy has been hurting so much. At 11 am ....... My hub phone rang. I never take my phone anywhere and Mum called me on his phone to see how I was. I've been walking on clouds ever since.

Re: Night Shift

I don't think any of the supports I have now will b available out of work hours. Which scares me a bit, they're cautious of me going back full time.
Because I'll be working at same school as my kids they will b with me before and after school except staff meeting night when they will go to after school care. My lil guy doesn't do well in any social situation, but he's starting school next year. No I won't have any respite or back up but I'm kind of hoping that work might help me meet ppl?
I got invited to a party thing (like Tupperware party but diff products) by my old friend and I was excited to go (thinking itd b nice to catch up a bit of fun with adults while kids played) but then I got there and the other 4 ppl who were there they'd all been out the night before together and spent a lot of the time making 'in jokes' about their night and it was just so lonely. I guess I kind of feel like I was only invited to make up numbers or buy stuff (lol which I couldn't anyway!) I'm not really sure I'm capable of having friends. And I know that probably sounds really petty but I'm just so tired of feeling so alone aside from people/workers who are paid to be nice/understand/support me but aren't really filling the hole that 'family' would. And maybe it's Christmas too
Oops sorry for off tangent rant...

Re: Night Shift

Yeah it is pity that Christmas is a pressure to so many of us no longer a pleasure.

So would the workers be available to doctor trips at least .. so that at least you could plan and arrange ... and know that would be taken care of ... what are their opinions eg the way your son is managing so far?

You need to be able to have something in reserve for the times of the night runs to a doc or just no sleep. It is just that you mentioned your son's paediatrician was concerned in a court case.

I recommenced study one year and put my son in after school care ... he so didnt manage I quit in a week and methodically tried to figure out what he needed.

I wasnt sure how the lady down the road would manage ... I have known her since she first found out she was pregnant ... had 2 kids .. got divorced ..etc ... she is tough and does it mostly herself ... but is well integrated ...grew up in the area ... has friends and family in the area. I am just a friendly face for her and kids .. cant be useful much .. neighbourly ..

Nobody likes being out with a group of people where a portion of them are doing the in-joke sort of thing .. its not about your being good or bad as a friend ... its just social fluffnstuff that happens .. maybe they were unaware of cutting you out ... maybe they were so desperate from having suffered so much they just had to part hard etc.

You have gotten the job ... thats great ... and the school should understand kids and parents needs ... so give it a go ... I'd be petrified too ... but it is an opportunity.

Re: Night Shift

Hmm not sure about Drs stuff - my lil guy needs to start psychological support stuff and ot, and paediatrician wants to see him again next year. But ever thing is so slow to organise, I booked him in for a private OT (because been waiting for public for 4 months) but it will be $130 a session and no Medicare for that- I'm trying to see about getting him on ndis as well but it's all so hard and have court coming up in a week and a half. I'm not sure how I'll manage it all to b honest... More I think about it the harder it all seems.

Re: Night Shift

I dont mean to make it sound harder ... just batting about thoughts ... you mentioned the support workers were asking you to tell them what they could do to help.. just thinking along that line.

I am sure you will manage to get done what needs to be done.

Dont overestimate psych and OT input and diminish your educational nous ... long term for them it is about integrating and moving through life smoothly ... if the see an OT in 6 months or not may not be that big a difference .. if they have mum in one piece.

Re: Night Shift

It's great to read you @Former-Member

It's always scary when Christmas is coming up.
I really feel for you about Tupperware Party.
About 3 weeks ago I heard of a support centre 'after hours,' in NSW
But your in SA right ?

Have you thought of trying communication with your brother ? Is he ...... Still unavailable ?
I'm being upfront and not being quiet on suggestions and apologies :
I went to the Salvarion Army Christmas Day
Two years ago : is there anything like that around you ?

Really thinking about you precious lady
I've done the most ...... Funniest things when my children were little. I cannot believe what I used to do.
My husband is trying to get me to do only one thing at a time. Not even crochetting while drinking coffee. He's not here right now : will this be something you need to focus on ? XxAnne
