Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I agree entirely @Decadian

I have lived amongst people who spend their lives in very close proximity to others - very tightly knit social circles within a whole culture like that. They would be astounded that the question is even being asked .......

We are neighbours chatting over the back fence.

And some of us are "shift workers" finding their neighbours up at all hours too.

💜😊

Re: Night Shift

You are right @Kurra

We need to be careful - I have been in groups that turned on people - I could tell a few taled here and they would be true

The same day as I started in this website I started in another one - but the moderators allowed people to pick at each other - and that is not helpful

We can always find another website - I have had plenty of experience - there are places that are well moderated - and I have been a moderator -

There are some strange people about but we have no need to let them into our lives

Re: Night Shift

Good morning all,

I hope that today is treating you kindly. It started off being clear and sunny hear and now is raining and windy brrr. So much for me trying to sit outside and get my vitamin D quota😁

@Kurra Good luck cleaning. I have the same to do too😬

@Faith-and-Hope You amaze me every time you write of your experiences. Your strength, dedication and persistence are just a few of your great values. I wish you all the best in your very challenging times. I think your husband and children are very lucky to have you in their lives. I believe like you that one day this will all sort out for the best but know that the waiting and holding it together must be so hard sometimes. Sending you hugs to help your give strength to your beautiful caring and compassionate spirit. 💐💜😊. Re the dog I get why you don't walk him all the time. When I chose mine I got one who I ought I was stronger than. I am but turns out he is aggressive with other dogs and so that stops me from walking him in many places.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks for the feedback @Mazarita - it is appreciated

We are who we are - and I am a deep thinker and just love my inner world - even though I have some dark memories

When you think deep thoughts your inner world grows - and thinking about death - yes - I do too - in a positive way - everyone must move on for the next generation and those following - this is the way it has always been

As for not fitting in - I have read Carl Jung on the subject - people who have an inner life - people who maybe do not really fit in - or feel that way - have the chance to develop their own lives - their journey - even their destination - without the peer pressure that causes people to develop cliques

I have "toxic-sister-issues" and it is better that I keep away - in my quirky analysis I think of her sitting on a pile of sand yelling "I'm the King of the Castle" - while I wander away either saying or thinking - "You can be the king of your sand castle - I'm the King of my own Castle"

That is such a new and thought provoking idea - if you feel you don't fit in with the cliques in our society - it seems to me you fit in here pretty well - it's easy to fit in here - I have found - and it does not feel like a clique - or someone's sand castle

Think your unique thoughts @Mazarita and live your unique life

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita Thank you for your kindness and patience. I really value your input and always learn something from your posts. You inspire me in the best possible ways😊💜

@Decadian. Thanks for your vote of confidence. There is a reason why my therapist and GP have concerns but I'm so frustrated with that. I feel like sometimes I'm held back from progressing because of this. My GP had fears because my resilience is not great if this all goes pear shaped. I explained that is probably the same for many of us on here who feel fragile and vulnerable sometimes. 😊💜

@Decadian Just read your last post and found it enlightening 😊

Re: Night Shift

That's true @Faith-and-Hope

Even my standoffish mother talked to her neighbours - and her life - as I see her with the advantage of so many years - as a very self-isolated person - she was horrified by new thoughts - they really scared her

And I am pretty sure that people in cliques never question the ideas of other people - they form their own rules

For a good analysis on the social rules of females in the movie I am sure most of you have watched a movie where a girl had been home-school and was tossed unprepared into high school and had no idea of the social mores of that situation

That movie gave me great inside into how badlly some people need to fit in

Re: Night Shift

I also wanted to add something to whoever is reading this. Before I came on here I was constantly in crisis and constantly feeding on negativity. I had become totally self absorbed with me and my issues. I've never really been one to give people compliments even though I thought them because I was too embarrassed. Something snapped into place for me when I joined the forums. I decided that I needed to express my positive thoughts and say what I thought. This has now transferred into real life. A few weeks back at my friends birthday her mid teenage daughter gave her mother a heart felt speech. I walked straight up to her after cried, hugged her and told her how beautiful it was. This was not the old me but it's becoming the new me. I feel so much better for expressing what I've always thought but been too embarrassed to say before.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Jacques

I find I can't possible read all the old posts - I go through some of them at random and answer what I can - but that is so overwhelming - I tend to get in the conversation where it's at -

This thread is exciting - I really enjoy it

But I am sorry to see you are struggling - but this is who you are - you care for these people and although it is so hard on you - you are sticking in with it

But I would suggest when you come on-line - read a few old posts - but if the conversation happening right then is interesting - then go with it for as long as suits your mood, time commitments, whatever

You have wonderful creative work you do to - and this world can be cruel to people who are so sensitive

But we like you here @Jacques

Re: Night Shift

Lastly (then I have so much to do) I wanted to say to @comet that before you even posted you gave me some confidence on this forum. Your likes on my early posts encouraged me to keep going. It was like having this little glowing light that I didn't really know where it was coming from ( because I couldn't find you at that point) helping me along. I'm glad we've helped each other on here😊💜 I hope your day is going well
