Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Faith-and-Hope,

My heart goes out to you for what you are suffering with your husband. How awful that you are being basically stalked within your marriage. No doubt you love your husband very much and wish to support him as much as possible, and there would be many other reasons you choose to remain in a situation that may have no quick or clear resolution. It's great that you are feeling safe enough here to open up more about your struggles, in a similar way to those of us with our 'official' diagnoses. So many of us on the forum are in some kind of emotional overload, whether it's being stressed to the point of breaking or having already collapsed in a heap, and all the variations on a similar theme. The distinction between 'situational' mental health struggles and those that might be related to 'chemical imbalance' and other biological factors are not completely clear. You have come to the right place to find people who can relate and support I think. Your post did not trigger anything in me other than sympathy, and I hope I am not saying anything troubling in reply. Mainly I just wanted to respond in the best way I am able, to you opening up again about what's going on your life.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks so much for your warm response @Mazarita. It's like a giant hug, and that is what I really need, I think, to help me to just keep going ........

What you write is the truth as I feel it. Our circumstances are all so completely different, and yet in many ways the same. It's about humanity, struggle, empathy, triumph over adversity ..... the whole bit.

Please understand that the kids and I are very strong minded. We do set boundaries, and prickle with WH when he says or does something that offends us outright, and then there's a juggle to keep from over-balancing as he has to process that much, so it's a tolerance thing, a walking of a tightrope.

His current pattern if temporary escape is just another coping strategy, so we are respecting that as part of the cycle we are endeavouring to endure as somewhere along the line this Pre-contemplation starts to spill over to the Contemplation stage. All of it is going to be really, really hard for him to come to terms with, and I know it's all going to end up in therapy, perhaps hospital stays, etc. This forum is helping me understand a little if that side of things ahead of time, including the human responses to it from the "patient" side of the fence, for which I am very grateful.

It is humbling that you are willing to share with me and help me to cope. Others from LE forum have done that for some on the C forum, and it is so incredibly powerful to witness that interaction. It is those who know what it's like helping those who feel so helpless to understand how to empathise, but also how to set boundaries. Sometimes what the person you are dealing with needs is the opposite of what you are trying to do to support them. The insight from someone who has "been there" is invaluable.

Re: Night Shift

Oven cleaning tip ??

Turn the oven on long enough to heat up a bit, but just to slightly above warm ....

Plaster the worst areas with a product called Gumption, or bicarbonate mixed with water if that's what you've got, then stick some paper towel on top of that, then close the oven door and let it sit while you clean something else for 20 minutes or so. Repeat as necessary.

I am a great one for letting stuff clean itself whenever and wherever possible ......

💜

Hi @Former-Member

I can't imagine what your doctor and psychologist are worried about - the people here are just people like everyone else - we just talk about our problems more

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member

Did you mention that the SANE forums are monitored 24/7?

There are some quite horrendous fora on the web where methods of just about everything are discussed. These are the ones that give this type of support such a bad name.

Re: Night Shift

I understand that @Mazarita

Since I have been on the internet I have been in groups now websites

I can't see any harm in a healthy use of it - it's just talking to people - we all do that -

We are social beings - that is not being addicted - that's being normal
