Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Silenus. Things are ok. Had a good appointment with my therapist which is always a good thing. How is your day going?
PS. The other thing that resonated in your post this morning is authenticity. You do realise with the answer you gave this morning you left yourself open to being bombarded with my questions😜😀

Re: Night Shift

Hi all, I was wondering has anyone here felt really dissociated in therapy that you're embarrassed to go back?

Re: Night Shift

I was about to start talking about alter personalities but I know that's really weird so I tried to keep quiet about it. Oh I am so confused.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member - I'm glad your therapy session went well. I remember that feeling after a productive session with great fondness...

It's a beautiful thing... 🙂

Me? I'm doing good. I need to get ready for the wedding coming up this weekend... it's my lovely partner's oldest son's wedding...

Very happy for everyone. I haven't met the bride-to-be's parents yet, so that will be interesting...

As a rather extreme introvert currently (I slide along the scale from mild introversion to extreme introversion), I need plenty of fuel in my tank for big noisy parties like weddings. It's exhausting for me. I recognise it as a fact of my life as an introvert...

Keep in mind the true meaning of introvert and extrovert... it is about where you get your energy from, and about what things drain you and what things energise you...

Introversion and extroversion is not about your outward behaviour. People often make this small error, seeing extroverts as loud party people and introverts as quiet loners... there is more to it than this, though...

I can be the life of the party without a problem. I used to be. I was the loud laughing one in the group, a self-deprecating clown amongst a group of funny musician mates. I roadied for them. We partied and laughed and enjoyed life...

Happy times...

Hugs and happy times vibes beaming to you all... 🙂

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Angels333,
I'm not sure that for me it's dissociating but sometimes in therapy I get the sensation that I'm looking at myself talking and I get feel that that my voice is droning. I can't look at my therapist and I have to concentrate on a spot in the room. This only happens when I'm stressed about if what I have to say will be received by my therapist ok - the true inner feelings and fears and when I feel stupid about something. I have a great relationship with my therapist which makes it ok but I understand that it would be hard if you didn't. Even though I have a good relationship I still stress about talking about certain things and it's difficult when I do. It seems to me that because you wanted to talk to them about it you trust them. If that's the case in my opinion don't worry about it and talk to them but maybe start by saying that your uncomfortable about it but want to talk about it. Im sure if they are good they'll make a safe and comfortable space for you to discuss anything. I hope this helps good luck😊💜

Re: Night Shift

Hi to whoever is around now.

Hi @Former-Member and @Mazarita sorry I disappeared this morning. My neighbour invited me for coffee, then I went to the Dr, then we went shopping, then I had some quiet time and a short nap ... hope you both had good days.

Hey @Snuchu thanks for sharing your heritage. My father worked in Aboriginal education most of his life and spent the last 10 years of his life doing that in Canada. His ashes were put in the river off the tip of Victoria Island in Ottawa and I visited there not long before Chief Spence did her long fast there. Such an honor. I hope you're having a better day today and your meds are starting to combat the voices for you.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member

Thanks for your insight. I do feel uncomfortable and I know it's because I had a terrible experience with a psychologist last year. He did EMDR with me but it turned out he wasn't qualified!

Re: Night Shift

Oh that's terrible about the psychologist being untrained @Angels333. I think it's really important for you to feel safe and can connect to the psychologist. It's really hard when you don't have that. I've found it so hard to trust them before. My current therapist is a clinical social worker who is highly accredited in Schema therapy but has trained in many therapies. My bad experiences have been with psychiatrists. Wishing you the best and hoping to find the safe space you need😊😀

All good @eth. I'm glad you had a nice day out and some sleep💜😊

Re: Night Shift

Thanks again @Former-Member

My psychiatrist is also a psychotherapist. He is good with the therapy.. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. He sees me weekly, so I'm hoping I can learn a bit more about my situation and maybe have a diagnosis.
