Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member

thats exactly how i feel in my sessions, i find it hard to speak and definitely too scared to look at my psychologist! i'm relieved that someone else is/feels similar...

I do dissociate.. a lot and for me i feel like i'm just far away from everything and theres an echoing feeling to my voice and anyones voices that i can hear. though at times i can suddenly start hearing a conversation that i didnt hear the start of so i guess i cant always hear/notice whats going on.

@Angels333 I'm sorry you had someone not trained do that to you! from what i hear its very specialised. My psychologist would love for me to try it but she isnt trained in it and there's noone near by here who is.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member I think the echoing is there for me as well. I'll have to pay more attention in my session. I think sometimes my therapists voice is strange to me at certain times. Its weird that it can switch in and out depending what's being talked about. I too have times when it's just like a normal conversation. 😊💜

Re: Night Shift

Hi Everyone!

First day in the new portfolio went well. It is so good to be really busy all day. I'm so very tired though since the last position I was in for 4 months I barely had enough work for two days a week. I'm no longer used to this go, go, go pace but at least I know I've achieved a lot today.

It's an operational area so all ateas of the work are critical. It's a good feeling to know that my small contribution adds value to the whole. It's also in a semi rural area so I'm in heaven. Once I can see for miles I can breathe freely.

I now know my work hours too. 6.30am starts to ostensibly 2.30pm although from previous experience I know this will quite often be 4.30pm. It doesn't fuss me too much. It's all about getting the work done to the highest quality possible.

@Angels333
With therapies such as emdr or thought field therapy it really is very important to check thst your therapist is fully trained in these techniques. I wouldn't worry about being embarrassed by your dissociation. Any therapist worth their salt would have recognised this and made allowances.
Thinking of you.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member @Former-Member and @Angels333

Dissociation for me is when I view what's being said, what's being done as if I were a bystander. I actually analyse it all as it's happening. A bit like being on the outside looking in, observing it all. It's a very strange space to inhabit.

Confusing yes because I have no means of comprehending how this is possible. Has anyone got any ideas? My pdoc did say it's quite rare. I don't know. It's something I've experienced many times throughout my life.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Kurra

I sometimes thing my psychiatrist is trying to use hypnotic gaze to bring on anxiety and then measure my response. So when I feel anxious I sometimes respond with a sort of tourettes where I blink and sometimes click my fingers. But I would feel very awkward if I said 'wait I'll check what sandy thinks'

At sometimes of distress I have even named some of my depersonalisation senses.

Re: Night Shift

@Angels333

It would probably be a good idea to tell your psychiatrist about the deepersonalised senses. No psychiatrist /psychologist can really help us if we don't tell them the whole story. Don't be embarrassed to do so. I'm sure they've heard very similar stuff before.

Think of it like a jigsaw puzzle. If you've got pieces missing it's impossible to see the whole picture. Hiding the things that you find embarrassing are the missing puzzle pieces.

Have courage and just blurt it all out. 💚

Re: Night Shift

I'm feeling so overwhelmed right now.

I wish I could help others but meds are making me so tired.

I'm off to sleep now

Re: Night Shift

Awesome that your first day at the new job went well @Kurra. Sounds exiting.

As far as dissociation goes I don't think I truly dissociate. It rarely happens and only under great stress. For me it's like the sensation of déjà vu as in something you've experienced but don't really know why or how.
