Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Good morning, @eth, @Silenus, @Snuchu, @Kurra, anyone else around,

Birds twittering here too. They too seem relieved the big rain and wind we had over past 36 hours has stopped. NSW is getting battered now I think, some coastal areas not far south of us have been evacuated.

@eth, sounds lovely where you are, though would be a bit warm for my menopausal body later in the day. Sorry you had a bit of a downswing yesterday after a good time with your mate. How's it going this morning mood wise?

@Snuchu, you sound heaps better than you were last week. Best to you on the continuing treatment.

@Kurra, not sure where exactly you are but my dad and ancestors from that side were from Shoalhaven - Nowra and surrounds. Have only been through that area once or twice but my research into family history has me feeling like I know the place from way back (ancestors arrived there about 1860). Dad was born in Nowra.

@Silenus, I love the positive spin you put on things, including the deluge we had over the last short period of time. I'm guessing it was similar up there to here but with more flooding. Brisbane seems to have so many flood zones. The house we used to rent there got flooded almost to the roof in the last big one. Luckily we had moved on down here before that happened.

Hope today treats everyone well!

Re: Night Shift

Good morning guys.
I'm awake now after a sobbing night. Self harm and sobbing. Chatted online with lifeline. It was a huge release. But now I'm feeling exhausted. Taking it easy today.
Hope today is nice and well for everyone. Xx

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita I'm feeling a bit better so far today thanks. The downswing has been happening for several weeks now, not just yesterday. Down at day times and then wide awake at night.

Not much planned here today, just some weeding already done and hopefully finish packing later. Going away this Thursday.

How are you today? How was your night?

@BlueBay sorry to hear last night was so rough for you. Hope you can have good rest and a peaceful day today.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @BlueBay, hugs your way. Do you mind if I ask if you are on any medications to help with how much strife you feel in your emotions? Feel free to answer or not as you wish. I remember times when I was in that state of crying a lot of the time and it really takes it out of you. In my case I became almost addicted to crying. By that I mean I became sort of hooked on the release of endorphins that happen afterwards. But then I would swing back down again into the pits like a yoyo. It's possible the crying was a kind of self-harm in itself. I guess in me it was a kind of bipolar rapid cycling but I know you have a different diagnosis. It was very hard to live with for my partner at that time, though not as exhausting as what I went through myself. Glad that you were able to get some assistance from Lifeline last night.

@eth, yes, I can see what you mean about being on a downswing for a while really. From what I read yesterday, I thought you meant you were feeling especially bad. Great that you are feeling okay so far today and have already been out weeding and back in the swing of getting ready today for your trip away. I have a feeling that event is going to make a big difference to your general state of being. Really relate to struggling through days often but being awake and fairly chirpy at night. This morning I feel pretty bright in my emotions but not much physical energy. Like the birds I'm relieved the windy downpour has left us. Was floppy, restless, agitated, all at once yesterday and slept a lot of the day away as a way of dealing with it. Was in bed by 10pm last night, awake again at 1.30am-3.30am, woke again about 7am. Gotta try to haul myself into the shower again today, it's been a few days again since the last one. Still struggling with motivation for much aside from computing at the moment.

Morning all🌞
I really enjoy coming on here and saying good morning and getting the round up from around the country. It starts my day off on a lighter note. It's also nice to have people to say good morning to.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member, how's it going today?

p.s. @BlueBay, the reason I asked about medications is that getting the right ones is the main thing that helped me out of the storm of emotions I lived in at one time.

Re: Night Shift

Ok thanks @Mazarita. I'm feeling ok. Feeling a bit guilty though. When I moved into my new house I was determined not to let my dog sleep on my bed. I was so over the dog hair and him taking up half the bed. It's only been 5 nights but he was back on my bed last night as I was feeling wussy 😏

How is your day? I hope the weather has cleared up there. I'm a bit with you on the motivation side at the moment. 😊💜

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member, you softie with the dog. Nice you had a snuggle buddy though. 🙂 Yep, weather here has cleared and with it my mood has improved, at least mentally. Motivation is an ongoing struggle for me really, though I often enjoy things or at least go okay once I am in motion. Getting myself to do them is the hard part. Knowing what will help us and actually doing those things are two very different things I find. Even after doing things and making myself happier with the sense of achievement, I often need to flop again afterwards to recover. Most things I do feel a bit like climbing mountains really. It's been like this for a long time, pretty much ever since I can remember, except when I've been in more manic states when I can barely sit still for two seconds in a row. Still hoping to reach some better balance with things at some stage in my life.

Morning @comet. How are you? I hope you don't mind me mentioning you.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member LOL about the dog on the bed I don't have a pet as I like to be able to have my weekends away sometimes, so my Mum sent me a stuffed rabbit! Can't quite get into sleeping with it tho'.

Hi @Mazarita I really didn't do much in the garden, just made a start. I wanted to get my head together to respond to msbertie, which I just did, and had been thinking about that all day yesterday too. So many memories. Now I'm just hoping my response was appropriate.

@Mazarita we are so similar when it comes to the motivation thing. That's why I make sure I have 'do nothing' days some times. I hear you about hoping to find the balance.
