Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Former-Member

Sorry to hear you are having a struggle day today. My mantra helps to get me through difficult days, and still achieve what needs to be achieved to keep our life still happening according to plans made, but the underlying feelings still need attention too.

Have you had the convo with the MH team ? Did it go okay ?

Thinking of you. I find it helps to write a to-do list on days when there is nothing that actually has to be done, with just maybe 3 or 4 things on it. It gives you something to focus on, with permission to roll over to tomorrow whatever doesn't get done today ...... and use a highlighter over what you have done, cos those are achievements, rather than crossing them out 🌷

I hope this helps you, and virtual hugs too 💗

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope. I have been in this cycle now for a couple of months where Thursday's I struggle and Monday's are the best days for me. We are trying to work it out. I was feeling so good yesterday and didn't think for a second I'd crash today but I did. I even tried to convince myself this morning that I'd broken the cycle because I thought it was Friday. Anyhow my therapist and I will work on it.
I am currently connected with a community mental health team and they are trying to work out what to do with me. I see my therapist under the mental health plan but only have a few visits left😢 The problem is they only know how to treat me as a my diagnosis and it is not helping and instead making things worse. I tried to tell them that today. I had a listening ear so I'll see what unfolds.

When things calm down with the move I am planning to sit and plan a way of dealing better with day to day things especially to help the bad days. Thanks for your support. I hope your day went as smoothly as possible. 😊💜

Re: Night Shift

My day did @Former-Member. Thanks for thinking of me 🙂 I was thinking of you too ❣

I hope something sorts out with this Monday / Thursday thing ......

Its just a thought, but is there anything in the family background that you grew up with that might have created a negative association with Thursday's ? If there is no obvious cause, sometimes there is some little niggle background cause that the brain has taken a hold of and created or continued a pattern around, quite inexplicably.

I am no expert mind, and not medically trained at all, it's more an interest in people, and a sort of scientifically inquiring-type mind ....... I have heard that art and science are related. It must be the trial and error, looking for relationships sort if thing.

Sometimes a thought somebody raises triggers thoughts in others, including the medical personnel, and a line of enquirer produces results. It is a puzzle, isn't it ?

I don't know whether this can help -

My daughter (D3) has had a run of ill health and injury for the last three years, starting with the dislocation if both her knees, three months apart. That's when we learned about hypermobility issues, and began to recognise the effects of that on other family members (sore jaws fir two of them, sore hands after extended writing exercises, frequency if tendinitis and soft-tissue injury particularly rolled ankles ....)

From there stress illnesses set in (glandular fever, IBS, massive issues with menstrual pain, headaches), and of course, with all the missed school, teacher annoyance, running to catch up only to fall again, she struggled emotionally too.

The end result was to build a wall of anxiety around attending the school campus itself. I thought about that for a little while, then we devised a plan !! I bought a gift bag and started to fill it with bits and pieces from sales bins in the supermarket - a lip gloss, nail polish, hair lackies, a nice gift card, a chocolate bar, a little fancy air-freshener thingy. Whatever we could find really. When we arrived at school, she was to take something out. It was a reward for being there, for stepping up to the day, despite how she felt.

And it worked, even though she knew all about the process and objective involved. It's a different take on a sticker chart that you use for small children.

Maybe you can make Thursday's a treat day if some sort for yourself, at least for a while, and see whether that dies an over-ride on whatever is causing the problem. Worth a try ?

I hope you relax this evening and find something to spoil yourself with.

Big hugs ❤️❤️❤️

DEar @Former-Member

It's nice to see this message to @Jacques....

He does take a lot on ........

I saw my Psychotherapist yesterday. It was great.

I told her the issues and that hubby is the solemate of my life. We spoke about my sos and how they are going. I was very forward with my youngest son and told him that it matters how he yells at me because how he treats me is how he will treat his girlfriends. It really affected him and he is very kind to me now.

We also spoke about me writing a novel. My homework is to write a plan and good structure by next Thursday.

Love to all,

PPxx

I'm feeling tired, but pretty okay @PeppiPatty. I think we have had some real wins after going through the wringer again this week ....

After all the "Washing Machine Days" and "Going Through The Wringer", we're gonna be prett damn clean at the finish of all this drama we're dealing with !!

Is that your crochet work ?

You sound like a real creative 😊

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Faith-and-Hope ,
Totally understand the hypermobility issues my daughter attends the connective tissue clinic at Westmead children's hospital. It's a really pervasive disorder.

I haven't had a great day today. I think I had a meltdown in my psychiatrist office.

Re: Night Shift

I am hearing stories like this about other people who are suffering as a result of hypermobility. My daughter's knee dislocations were a real eye-opener. Prior to that, we just knew that we were very "bendy" people, you know, touching thumbs to wrists, grabbing your elbows behind tour back, that sort of thing ...

We haven't got off too badly, considering.

sorry to hear you didn't have a good day. I hope this evening is restful for you, and tomorrow turns into a better set of events.

💜
