Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Am I remembering it right .. your child had sight issues. It was lovely to hear about the visit and you having their toddler to bond with.

My son was probably most angry 8 years ago. He doesnt express it outwardly very much, but it was in his mood and I was afraid for him. Mostly I am proud of how he is engaging with his passion of music.

Re: Night Shift

What you said makes total sense @Appleblossom. I agree with you about being able to share candidly, it's such a change from life outside the forums. I can't say how much it means to me, it's immeasurable.

There would be carer's respite available for you if you wanted to use it. I'm not sure exactly how you'd access it where you live, but your counsellor would know how to find out. But I guess that depends on whether your son would handle it. Up here you can do it in a way that the one cared for can stay in the home and the carer is accommodated elsewhere. I found it really hard at first but my child said they enjoyed themself afterwards so it worked out well when we got used to it.

Re: Night Shift

I have been doing it independently by going on little breaks doing music. I had a week away in January and a weekend recently and he coped and enjoyed it.

I am getting tired and should try sleeping soon. My son is on the piano at the ohter end of the house .. but it is not loud. He is tinkering and probably wont go down for a while. I prefer he use his time well rather than be in a constant struggle against himself.

I appreciate your company @eth When are you going away to the festival?

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Appleblossom. I've always enjoyed yours too. I really should at least try to sleep as well in the not to distant future. Glad to hear you've been getting some breaks, however you do it. I remember now you really enjoyed your music weekend.

The festival is the weekend after this one coming - so soon. I started packing today and am actually getting excited about it now. I have some moments of anxiety about being out there but I tell myself they're not very rational and it seems to have settled down now. Really looking forward to the night at the hot springs before we go to the festival too. That will be magic.

Re: Night Shift

I got D3 to school sort-of on time this morning, and she has stayed there, and she is stepping into regular classes as opposed to hiding out in the counsellor's office. Yay !!

The hardest part for her is when teachers respond with irritation and hot-headed grumpiness, not understanding that her pain issues and illness are real, and completely unaware of the underlying, undiagnosed, MI issue with her dad ....

Awkward. Difficult. Still doable, with patience and understanding all round ...... 🌷

Looks like it's happening.

Breathe. Hope. Love. Achieve another task. Repeat. - Notes to self ......

💗

Re: Night Shift

Yay @Faith-and-Hope. You must have incredible patience. High schools can be difficult places to get everyone on the same page. I think I may have to borrow your mantra.💜
Glad your day is going well😊💜

I'm in struggle street today but you get that. Apart from getting my son to school I've achieved nothing😏 About to have a difficult conversation with my MH support team😔

Sending hugs to @Former-Member and @Faith-and-Hope...

Life is a funny ride. Do you like roller-coaster rides? Or do you prefer the slower more predictable merry-go-round?

One of my favourite spots in the world was in a park in Edinburgh. I would order a large pot of tea, and sit at a table, watching the merry-go-round with it's merry-go-round music and merry-go-round lights and little horsies...

A place of peace, that is what it was for me...

And such a place of beauty, as the night air started to settle in, and the quality of the light changed just before the slow fade to black...

Even in silence, the music of the merry-go-round plays on... hahaha...

Hugs...

Re: Night Shift

Thanks for the hug @Silenus. Returning one to you too. I used to love the roller coaster but now the merry-go-round sounds so much more peaceful and constant. Love the description of the light. I very much need to try and get out more to appreciate all the little things once again. 😊💜
