Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

My daughter's had some issues with broken bones, she's had a spinal fracture and sternum fracture and a couple of fractures in her feet.

She was a national level dancer but was forced to quit due to injury.

Re: Night Shift

That's a shame @Angels333, especially as it was probably that bendiness in part that drew her to something like dance in the first place.

Dancing is very intense too, isn't it ? I can't believe how every little muscle in a dancer's body seems to be exquisitely toned, and that involves many, many hours of hard work.

Has she found something else that is associated with the field, but not so taxing ?

Re: Night Shift

Ahh it is so good to lie down. My body doesn't cope with long hours of driving very well anymore. I think I should buy a new body.
Busy day and a bit traumatic but the pdoc believes my bipolar is inactive. We had a long discussion about the relationship between bipolar and anxiety and which comes first. He pointed out a number of studies in relation to bipolar and anxiety so I'll be off to the uni at the weekend to read them. He also talked about some research he's working on at the moment. Even better he doesn't want to see me for 6 months.
The biggest surprise was that he bulk billed me. That's the first time ever so I'm feeling rich! The same thing happened with the PET scan and appointment afterwards for the result. Very definitely my lucky day.
My back is killing me. Maybe I'm going to have to stop more frequently in future.

Now I know that it's possible to get back to the real Kurra. For me medication compliance has helped as well as the hard work I've done with my psychologist. I see him tomorrow. In addition my GP has also done a lot of additional study to understand the complexities of my bipolar which is also complicated by epilepsy although this has been controlled with medication for 42 years. The fact that 3 of them (pdoc, psych and GP) work as a team has meant that my treatment has been coordinated at all levels.
I'll deal with the realities of the not so good news over the next month when I'll need to start treatment.
Yes I'm being very deliberately vague in relation to this matter. When I revealed this information on another forum it was so badly managed by the powets that be that I am still scared to say too much. I don't believe I could handle that degree of thoughtless treatment again.

Re: Night Shift

Thinking of you @Kurra

I hope you can feel safe again at some point in the future.

And @Faith-and-Hope yes dancing was definitely her forté but now she swims to keep fit. Dd loves school and is so creative. Her artistic skills in dance have transferred to drama and creative writing

Re: Night Shift

@Kurra

I am glad you had some sweet surprises tucked into today, and I hope the "other thing" is manageable for you.

There's this stuff called Fisiocrem I have been using on a sore back / hip all week. It contains Arnica, Calendula (Marigold), and another couple of natural ingredients, and heats up when you run it in. I bought it from a physiotherapist's clinic, but it has been great for soft tissue injuries and stress or tension points.

Sleep well 🌸
