Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Looks like we've just crossed paths, @eth, night night again.

Hi @Appleblossom, just read your earlier post. Thanks for your thoughts on the past experiments in life. It was mainly just a dream but I do seem to be processing a lot of stuff from the past through them lately, as many of the dreams feature people from previous times in my life (including the one I just woke from). Made me laugh to think of us at the same parties.

Hi to anyone else who's still around.

Re: Night Shift

Hahaha... thanks @eth

I taught myself that rambling approach to exploring topics of interest. It's fun to pull things apart and observe them...

Most people don't have the patience for it - I know from past failed conversations with friends over the years. They just want to talk about the weather or sports results, and here am I, deconstructing the whole Universe... hahaha...

The bus is parked outside my lovely partner's sister's and brother-in-law's place. We are staying with them, helping with the rent...

We're hoping to buy a place big enough for the 4 of us to live in together - an upstairs downstairs thing would be ideal. With prices in the area up in the high 700s though, it's a daunting prospect... (and that's for a 405 square metre postage stamp of dirt with a big queenslander plonked on it...

Hence the need for jobs...

I enjoyed the north, @eth ... that festival thingie that you are going to sounds great. We met some wonderful First People in our journeys, especially at Nitmiluk. The springs in Katherine were great, as were the ones at Mataranka...

Ideally though, I'd love to live near Byron Bay, but the rich people have crowded out all the old-school hippies and it's become too expensive and crowded...

Kuranda was nice. Mission Beach was lovely too... so many places we visited on our grand 2 year long road trip around Oz...

Good morning @Mazarita - dreams can be a mystic teacher... I hope they've been treating you nicely...

How does the morning find you?

Re: Night Shift

Good morning All,

@Silenus I bet it is warmer in BrisVegas than here! That is already a fairly large place, but you could always live on the outskirts? I hope you will soon find some meaningful work. Huggles.

@Kurra it is getting chilly, but I don't think we had negative digits yet. I would love to have a job where I could just work from whichever place just has the perfect climate at the time - not only following the weather, but also having a change of scenery.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Silenus, morning greetings to you. 🙂

Today finds me awake but a bit tired from only four hours sleep. May not have much time for more today before setting out on the day's little adventures after a few days inside.

I've been thinking of you in the job search. If things get too tough, may I suggest temp agencies. That was one way I got permanent work in Brisvegas when I first arrived there from here on the coast about 10 years ago (not that it turned out to be permanent due to my ill health, but such is life). You would be overqualified for the jobs but at least it's a pay check. Your typing speed is a strength in your favour, as it was for me, despite a very patchy work history. Just a toss in the hat kind of idea for your current searching.

Re: Night Shift

Good idea @Mazarita - I've tried temp agencies in the past, with mixed results.

For buying a house, banks usually need to see a permanent job, so that's what I'm aiming for. But practicalities of making money must also factor into it...

I find with office admin roles there's a little bit of reverse gender bias... being a guy and trying for those roles has worked against me...

I've been walking barefoot for a couple of years now. It will be difficult and painful to resume wearing shoes...

Barefoot walking has "fixed" my flat-footedness. Wearing shoes will be a backward step, but that's society for you... one size fits all (or none... hahaha...)

Huggles @Former-Member - how have you been?

Re: Night Shift

@Silenus - join the barefoot shoe movement. All my shoes are flexible, spacey and as little restriction as possible to come close to barefoot feel. They're expensive, but check out the sales and buy one good pair for work. Vivo are the best you can get here in my opinion, and they're OK for work. Just buy one pair and stay barefoot the rest of the time.

I think overall I am getting a bit more stable - less SI and I think the meds are doing their job. The ups and downs are there and I've had some tough days, but I think in the big picture it is currently looking better. I try to compare with the really dark times - that makes me feel better 🙂 Thanks for thinking of me.

Re: Night Shift

Morning all! @Silenus Merrill shoes are really good too. Bitter springs at Mataranka is the one we are going to. Absolutely divine.
