Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

I'm on an early tomorrow morning which means I have to get up at 4:30am. Quite a disgusting hour. At least I'll get a bit of a sleep in on Thursday morning as I'll be heading off to the big smoke for an appointment with my psychiatrist at 2:15pm.

I've had an OK day and hopefully I'll start in a new position on Monday. Although it's only a temporary transfer for 15 weeks it will be challenging and require some brain use. As it's a high end, fast paced position I'll be as happy as Larry. I would far prefer to have too much work than not enough.

I hope everyone is on the improve. I'll be thinking of you all. I've pretty well banned myself from overnight posting. If I guarx my sleep my world appearz to remain more stable.
Have a good night.
Hugs to everyone.

Hi all. Hope you all had peaceful days today and get good sleep tonight. I'll be around a bit longer if anyone wants to chat.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth. How's your day been? We were chatting recently about your psychiatrist wanting you to avoid posting here in the middle of the night. But I forgot to ask how the session went aside from that.

Re: Night Shift

@Mazarita it was the GP who said it. Don't see the psychologist til mid june and the psychiatrist at the end of june. Already feeling nervous about seeing them again.

Today was ok. Turned out we had the wrong time for the shopping centre opening and I didn't want to go back there by the end of the day. Just a very quiet day after that. Some of it at home, some with my neighbour. Had a coffee late in the day, hence staying up a bit tonight. Not stressing about it.

How was your day? Did you make it to hydrotherapy? How did you feel with that big outpouring and all the feedback? I think it's an amazing new thread which could help quite a few people.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, sorry, got my wires crossed there with your appointment dates. I remember now that you have a little while to wait for the psychiatrist and psychologist. I guess it's the anticipation of possible challenges that might be making you feel nervous. For what it's worth, I think these things are often more managable once we get to them than they seem when thinking about them in advance.

No, I didn't make it to hydrotherapy, which is partly what prompted me to write the outpouring on the other thread. I am blown away by how many people responded. As Suzanne worded it in another thread, I thought it might be one to gather tumbleweeds, which would have been okay too. But the response gradually lifted my mood and made a more productive day out of one that was looking like it might have seen me go back to bed to sleep the day away.

Re: Night Shift

So glad to hear your mood lifted @Mazarita. Do you have anything planned for tomorrow? Are you getting to sit on the beach at all? I seem to remember you saying you have too much pain at the moment to do your walks.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, I have ukelele class in the morning and an x-ray of my lower legs afterwards. I haven't been to the beach since I tried to walk the other day and couldn't manage it. I'm basically sulking about not being able to walk there at the moment, one of the great pleasures and natural therapies of life to me. Once I get past my sulking, I may go out and just sit there and take in the sights and sounds. That was another thing that prompted my outpouring - being inside for the past three days. Not that this in itself is a crisis. Just that the prospect of it continuing scares me because of how bad I got with that in past years. Really don't want to go there again for any length of time.

How about you? Anything planned tomorrow? Did you enjoy your evening with your man recently? What did you cook?

Re: Night Shift

Once again I hope you reach your goals tomorrow @Mazarita. I can relate to the fear of falling back to where we were in the past. Don't forget that cartoon @NikNik has about the path to recovery.

Tomorrow is another home day for me. But I hope to do some chores and start packing for my camping trip to the Aboriginal community festival 9-12 June. I'm really looking forward to that, getting away from these walls and back into nature. It's been a while. Our first night we're going to some hot springs and then in to the community the next day. It's a sport, music and culture festival and happens every year. I love it. This year Gurrumul will sing and last year he sang with Paul Kelly, the first performance of their duet of Amazing Grace. So special. This year there will be several female performers as the theme for the festival this year is womens' strength. I'm going with the female friend I told you about not so long ago.

When my man came over I just cooked spag bol - he calls it spaghetti blow your nose! We both love it and it's easy. Hadn't done it for some time. I always enjoy my time with him but it's rarely more than 1 evening a week. Strange relationship that it is.

Re: Night Shift

@eth,

Ah yes, that cartoon that NikNik posts from time to time, it is a good one. It does me good to remember that. Tend to panic with my backwards steps and worry too much about the squiggly ones (the perfectionist rides again).

Hope your domestic aims for tomorrow go well. The festival sounds awesome. You will probably feel like a new woman afterwards. Great that you have such good company to go with too.

I guess it's strange that you only spend an average of one night a week with your mate. If it works for both of you, not so strange though. But I know you've mentioned before that it's not really what you're looking for as an ideal for yourself (not that we ever really get the 'ideal'). In the meantime, though, it's great to have good company with someone who has a sense of humour too by the sounds of it. That means a lot to me in a mate.

@Mazarita I've been meaning to ask how your dreams have been going? I've had some really bizarre ones lately.
