Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo I went to the shops this morning and then spent the afternoon and evening at a good friend's place with another good friend as well. They are the closest friends I have up here who I can just be myself with so I really enjoyed it. Didn't enjoy the drive home at night but got here ok.

Sorry guys. False posted again. Think I'll be earning a nickname soon if I keep this up. It's just when I use my mobile phone. I hope everyone is ok

Re: Night Shift

I'm ok @eth. Actually I'm in a strange place right now. I've just got home from one of my best friends birthdays. It's only the third time I have been To a party in about 2 years. I knew everyone there but haven't seen many of them since my diagnosis 3 years ago. It went ok but I realised how much I've changed. I am not the person that everyone used to know and it frustrates me. Anyway I'm just not sure how or if I'll ever be that person again.

How are you tonight?

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo. It's good your just chilling out. I could do with just relaxing now.

@eth it actually went quite well considering the anxiety I was feeling before I left. However I always come home from something like this and over analyse the night and then feel anxious again. It's strange because when I'm there my anxiety is ok.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member except for a couple of family events I haven't been to a party for several years now. I think it would feel completely surreal. Since my diagnosis and the life-style changes I made because of it I really value having a very few close friends who I really trust much more than an extended network of acqaintances. And I don't miss all the people I don't see since, only one of them has ever tried to talk to me (on facebook) and I only hear from her every 6 months or less, never see her. Looking back I think a lot of them were either very shallow or using each other or both.

So I think you were pretty brave to go tonight, even if it was just to see how much you've changed - that could be a good thing.

Re: Night Shift

@erh I know that I have pretty much closed down my friendships too to the few I can trust and be safe with. Most of the people don't know my diagnosis. They all know I have been struggling with mi. Tonight I was really lucky as I didn't know how I would be received. There was a lot of love there still. Many of these friends I've had for 30 years. I used to be fairly happy go lucky but now I'm so intense and on edge all the time but I guess I'm feeling good that people were generous with their love and kindness tonight. I'm sorry that you didn't receive good support after your diagnosis but glad you have some close friends. I agree with you though in that having the close friends that are really supportive is the most important part.

Oops. So sorry I mistyped your name @eth. It's one of the easiest to type too

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member I only have disclosure with a handful of people. I have bipolar and it's been used as both an insult and what was meant to be a friendly joke in the past. I don't trust many people at all on this issue because of those experiences. Most people seem to have no idea of the daily reality of managing a life with mental health issues.
