Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Hi @eth, @Former-Member, @plasmo, @Decadian and whoever else might be around.

Haven't been to sleep so far tonight since napping for about 90 mins until about 10pm. Been enjoying some video editing, as well as getting frustrated with it. It's often a test of patience!

@Former-Member, I read what you were writing about going to the party and how you felt anxious before and over analytical afterwards. I am so much like that. At the time of socialising I often seem to be relatively okay. But it takes a lot out of me before and after.

@eth, my social circle has reduced a lot and I almost never go to parties. I think the last one was my own 50th birthday, which was really just a dinner at a local club for about 12 people. Haven't seen some of them since (almost 4 years ago), others very rarely. I'm usually better with one-on-one or small groups these days. And not too often, otherwise I get overloaded.

@plasmo, cool that you went for a walk. I went out on the beach hoping for one today but my legs clapped out on me so I came home.

@Decadian, glad to hear you too enjoy Next Gen. Are you into Voyager as well? I'm enjoying that more at the moment. I've seen them all before mostly but they are still my favorite (and almost only) TV shows (only have free TV here, no cable). The one from today about Data was a good early episode. He's my favorite character in Next Gen. Hope you enjoy when you get to it.

Re: Night Shift

@eth I think that as time goes on I'm finding like you that many people find it really hard to understand what my life is like. I guess that maybe before all this I wouldn't have either. Tonight I wanted to disclose because I wanted to say "see this is still me the person you have known for a long time" but I couldn't as I didn't want to face the 'what if they don't like me anymore'. On one hand you want to reduce ang stigma and on the other you fight for self protection. There are some people who knew but they were only the ones that I knew would be ok with it.

How has your day been? Have you been able to get some good sleep?

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Mazarita Good to 'see' you. It's the same for me as what you describe re socializing. I didn't even have a 50th birthday party, just lunch with a friend and their daughter. But this year was much better, hearing from a lot more people and going out for a beautiful dinner with my man.

That sounds really positive @plasmo.

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo, it has been getting easier for me too lately from doing more of it. Spent years locking myself in my flat almost completely before last year, but been slowly stretching the envelope on a lot of things, socialising included, since then.

Re: Night Shift

Thanks @Mazarita. It's helps to know that you feel this way too about going out. I definately couldn't do it too often know because it does take a lot out of you. I hope your day has been ok.

Re: Night Shift

@eth, great to know things are on the improve with you too, with socialising and with other things.

@Former-Member, actually it was a bit of a rough day. I wrote about it a bit earlier. Before that I drafted a long, miserable post about it but decided against posting it as I thought it would be too depressing to read. Glad I made that choice because I feel better now. Actually I often feel better in the middle of the night.

Re: Night Shift

@Former-Member I had a little over 2 hours sleep so far. Will go back to bed in a little while.

I have to push myself to get out too. What with social anxiety and PTSD some days I just don't want to put myself out there. But this week I got out of the house 5 days out of 6 so far. Tomorrow will be an at home day but my mate is coming for dinner.

Re: Night Shift

Sorry @Mazarita. Just caught up with your post. Dreams and psych appointments can change everything. I've done that before too. I'm glad you are doing better now.

@eth. That's fantastic that you've been out of the house so much. I have a similar goal for when life settles after I move house this week. I hope you enjoy your dinner tomorrow - and get more sleep.

I'm heading for sleep now as I have a big day packing tomorrow. Thanks for the chat, stay well😊💜
