Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

@plasmo learning CBT and mindfulness methods has really helped me with that sort of thinking - I call it cyclic thinking coz it feels like going round and round over the same issues. Do you have any techniques that work for you?

Re: Night Shift

@eth, it was yet another breakdown from work that triggered the long sleep period. It was also before I was given anti-psychotic medication. I was exhausted from my own anger and agitation that was gripping me daily in a bad way. Also issues with partner at that time (hard to live with someone with so much anger and agitation).Moods were going up and down like a yoyo. All too much to deal with so I just went to sleep. I'm still recovering from that time really, it's taken several years to come back from it to where I am now.

You've come a long way @Mazarita and from what you've shared with me you are making amazing efforts to keep up your progress. How was your cooking class this week?

Re: Night Shift

Thanks, @eth. Especially in the last year things have improved a lot. We made various dips in cooking class this week. I enjoy cooking much more when I'm not on my own with it.

Re: Night Shift

When I was diagnosed, I attended DBT. It didn't really work, except for the mindfulness part. I want to try CBT.

Re: Night Shift

Me too @Mazarita I really enjoy cooking for shared meals but am very slack when it comes to just cooking for myself, which is most of the time. For a couple of years it was a real creative outlet for me, especially when I was hypomanic, but it's another interest I can't get motivated with the last couple of months. Am going to make the effort next time my man-friend comes over.

I realized I gave a confusing message talking about my very close female friend the other night, but the thing is my man-friend has always been clear with me that he doesn't want to share his domestic life with anyone again and never has me come to his place and rarely takes me out. As much as we have good times together at my place and have done for a long time, it's not what I dream of having as a relationship. I'd like to think that one day I will be able to share my life with someone again and I know that that is also what she is looking for. Just wanted to explain that as it's been on my mind since that conversation we had.
